Hydro 205 Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 I'm not flexable or small enough anymore to do those live well and bilge jobs.
fishinwrench Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Well I just got in from the worst butt whoopin' I've had in a long time. The fish up this way are shut down hard for some reason. 2 dinks in 4.5 hours I started off with the deeper fish, then went to the backend flats to hopefully save the day. Didn't happen. Schools of little quarter sized shad everywhere and lots of suspended fish on the TV that refuse to eat a spoon, wacky rig, crankbait, jerkbait, or swimbait. The 2 dinks came shallow from some flooded grass.....but I fished about a mile of it to get them. If I hear that someone smoked them in the Gravois this evening I'm gonna waterboard them until they explain how.

After the fact my dad mentioned maybe a 1/4 oz cast master spoon. Not sure if white or black bass chasing those little minnows though. I have resigned myself to taking July off from lake of the ozarks. Not dealing with the ocean yachts for a couple dinks. I'm ready for them to tuck under the docks this fall.
Bushbeater Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Fished about 3 hours yesterday, 2 bass, 1 solid 4 lb and 1 dink. Started out 12 to 20 FOW and had 0. Caught the fish tight to the bank where the shad were off deeper. There's been a lot of boats up this way Hybrid fishing with shad, however I've seen very few caught since before the 4th. It seems to me the boat traffic and high water temps have shut them down. Saw water temps yesterday close to 90 degrees. It seems it may be time to switch to Cat Fishing for awhile.
fishinwrench Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Yeah the deep structure fishing here doesn't really excite me all that much because there are only certain times when I can sit out there and do it without getting tossed around to the point that it's more like a bull ride than a fishing trip.
nomolites Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 I caught hybrids and stripers easily before the 4th and then they slowed way down and began staying deep. I did switch to a 1/4 oz bink's spoon to compete with all the fry and picked up some fish that way but overall it looks to me like there is plenty of forage for the fish and the good ones(walleye, hybrids, stripers that is) are tough to fool for now. I suggest taking a siesta and fishing the last hour of two of daylight... Mike WeekendWarrior 1

No, no time with all the kids and I didn't have any Ned rigs for him 😄. He helped me with the kids fishing off the dock with beer bread for bluegill though
