Seth Clarkson Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 bferg, glad to see you had luck changing tactics. I have done most of my fishing to this point out of a kayak in small lakes and up into some small rivers. Almost all of the little fishing experience I have has either been throwing topwaters like a frog, buzzbait or whopper plopper that do not require too much hand movement from in the kayak, and flipping worms or creatures. Moving to fishing out of a boat has been really hard to move out away from the bank and fish differently. Hopefully I can let go of that mindset and have success while learning new ways/areas to fish like you have.
Devan S. Posted July 14, 2017 Posted July 14, 2017 Good to hear the report. Cats in the wild are really one of the coolest animals. I call for coyotes quite a bit in early fall and through spring. Only called in a cat once after hundreds of stands. They are sneaky and you wont see them until they are right there. Ive trapped quite a bit but something about a cat in action looking for a meal is quite the sight. We called this cat within 5 feet of the call(electronic foxpro) less that 10 yards from us. It set down and just looked at the call. Set there about 5 minutes watching before it decided something wasn't right and sneaked off. Really cool experience. Quillback and Champ188 2

Then fished smaller lakes in Colorado similar to you- shallow fishing or pitching to structure. Been here 8 years and realizing if I want to fish these lakes and catch fish year round I have to stop being drawn to the bank like a bug to the light. Deep water and offshore is a tool I need to sharpen up on. Luckily I am at the phase of fishing where I can go out, try new things, learn something- and even if I don't catch anything still have a lot of fun and not feel like it was a failed trip. vernon, Champ188, Carl W and 1 other 4
