I take mine off every night. If I'm going fishing in the morning I don't put it on.  One less thing to worry about slipping off and falling in the water with wet hands, and to avoid mishaps like your wife had.

I know a guy who has a permanent ring burned into his finger when I was working on his car about 15 years ago.  He had a screw driver or a wrench in his hand and he had put his hand down on the battery as we looked things over in the engine bay.  Well that tool hit both the positive and negative posts of his battery.  Gave him an instant third degree burn and it melted his ring to his skin.  ER had to pretty much cut the ring out of the skin on his finger.  Most nasty thing I've ever seen and smelled.  I want to say he had just taken off his mechanics glove to remove a bolt and hadn't put it back on yet when it happened.

Then you have the whole Jimmy Fallon thing where he almost lost his finger because of his ring.  They can definitely be dangerous things.

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
