It's not required, but it does speed up the process since you can just keep moving until you actually see the fish. Docks that sit over deep water with big swim decks are a good place to start looking. Those are usually obvious enough that they get a lot of pressure though.
Members troywaukee Posted August 23, 2017 Author Members Posted August 23, 2017 Thanks for the all the info fellas. We gave it a go last year in mid-October and didn't have much luck. Might be looking at a similar timeframe this year with schedules. If I can push it to late October, we might give that a go.
Members Yakalong Posted August 24, 2017 Members Posted August 24, 2017 Just an FYI if u don't fish loz much, in October, I think around the end, they have that big bass tournament. Its comical to watch, one boat fishes another one waits to fish that spot. A lot of boats and not great fishing for someone who is just fishing for the weekend.

Don't need to get in line for my normal spots!

Hmmm, I did not experience that at all. It's a large tournament yes, but there is almost a mile of shoreline for every boat entered.
Seth Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 I've only fished it once and I didn't feel like I was sharing water. We caught plenty of fish too, just nothing over 3.5#. I'm still debating on whether I want to do it again this fall. My aluminum jet boat isn't the best for rough condition and you feel like you got beat with a bat after 16 hours of fishing rough water.

The Glaize usually isn't bad, or fish above Hurricane Deck and you have a few options for weigh in sites. Avoid the main lake and it's not bad in October.

New weigh-in location up river this fall at 58 mm at Ivy bend resort
fishinwrench Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 The upper river just doesn't seem to produce toads like it used to. Back in the 80's and early 90's your average bass was almost 2 pounds heavier once you got above Pearson. I used to make the run from PB#2 to Cole Camp almost every weekend from August to November because that's what we had to do to get a decent check. Definitely wasn't worth it because it cost me 5 times more in fuel and powerheads than I ever won. Old plug 1
