Wifey and I got out for about 4 hours starting at about 9:30 this morn.  We ended up with 10 keepers and 7 shorts.  Bottom bouncing in 14 to 20ft of water.  Kept one for the smoker.

You have said several times you keep a few for the smoker, I have never smoked anything beside salmon. If you're willing to share, how do you prep and smoke your walleye? It sounds mighty tasty.

When I clean the walleye I just take the side off the fish like your going to filet it except instead of take the filet off the skin I leave it on.  The wife smokes it for 2 hrs at around 225 to 250.  Salt, pepper, paprika and garlic.  She loves it I am not much of a fish water.

That is basically the way I do it also.  I remove the lateral bones and the rib bones before it goes on the smoker.  I baste it with olive oil before adding seasonings.

Crappie 13" and longer also smoke very well.

Nice work!  We found a good bite mid afternoon that started slowing down after 5pm.  Makes me wonder if the dam cut back generation around that time!

Thanks, I'm gonna give it try next time I catch a few.
