Members Firespecialist Posted September 5, 2017 Members Posted September 5, 2017 Hello, Looking to head down to Beaver Lake this weekend and planned on camping. Are there any primitive spots that are relatively close to the water that I can get a kayak down to the water fairly easy? I've been looking for campsites but can't find any around the lake other than the campgrounds. Looking to stay away from crowds and paying. I know on Table Rock there a few old state parks that a person can kind of get away from it all and something like that should be fine. I just got back from a 2 week camp trip where a majority of it was in campsites throughout Wyoming and Montana so I'm in need of some peace and quiet. Lol. Thanks. MoCarp 1
Quillback Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 I don't know of any. Might check to see if they allow camping on one of the islands near the 12 bridge, that would be the only possibility I can think of. Dan the fisherman 1
Lance34 Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 You might try Hobbs State Park. The Pigeon Roots Trail. There's campsites along it and close to Van Winkle Hollow. Probably totally off what you are looking for but, it's the only thing I know of Dan the fisherman 1
Members Alumacraft190 Posted September 6, 2017 Members Posted September 6, 2017 How about the old abandoned campground east of PC, Ventris is the name I'm wanting to say but I may have that wrong. Would there still be access with old slabs? Ive never really explored it but figure maybe something is left over, interesting if nothing else.
JohnF52 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Beaver Lake Regs do not allow overnight camping anywhere but designated sites. Being able to primitive camp on Beaver went out in the 1970's. bfishn 1
Members CBNMO Posted September 20, 2017 Members Posted September 20, 2017 I realize you have already gone, but for future trips, you might check out Hide A Way campground. The store, pool, cabins and main camp ground is up on the ridge, but they have primitive camp sites down by the lake, near the boat ramp. Not sure of the price for those sites but they are not utilized very much from what I've seen. Road was rough going down there, but I haven't been there for a while. I would keep an eye out for slithering creatures down there, or anywhere camping around the lake. We enjoyed camping at Starkey Campground, but saw two large Copperheads come through our site one night. The next morning when we took down the tent, there was a small one coiled up under the tent. The wife hasn't wanted to go back . . . . ? Also killed one in front of our garage door the other night.

Her entire leg turned black, swelled up to twice it's normal size, she was on crouches for two weeks. The doctor did not give her anything for it, said it was safer to just run it's course.
