Stump bumper Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 If you are like me and got the white fire extinguisher at Walmart for your boat, you might want to look at this. https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2017/kidde-recalls-fire-extinguishers-with-plastic-handles-due-to-failure-to-discharge-and zarraspook, J-Doc, Daryk Campbell Sr and 1 other 3 1
J-Doc Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 My (new) boat came with one similar to this or just like it. I'll have to check into this. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Stump bumper Posted November 7, 2017 Author Posted November 7, 2017 Update; I have drivers all over the country reporting that they have been able to walk into Walmart and exchange these over the counter for new fire extinguishers. I have already ordered the four I have here online so I have not been able to test that at our local Walmarts. snagged in outlet 3 and tho1mas 1 1
J-Doc Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 I need to take time and call about mine. I checked it Saturday and it appears the one that came with my boat is one of the affected models. I need to call the number and give them the serial number and have them give me instructions on how to exchange it. Mine came with my 2015 model Ranger. I believe Cabelas outfitted it as part of their outfitting package. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! If you enter the Model number and serial number online they will ship you a new one with free return shipping labels for the old one. The time I was given was 15-20 business days. There is also a "date of Manufacture" block that is not required to be filled in. J-Doc 1
J-Doc Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 Their website says mine is unaffected by the recall but I have the exact same model as listed under the "affected list". My unit does not have a stamp with the date on it so I had to guess. So now that I have filled in the information, I cannot go back and change the date should I find the actual date on it. It's locked me out. Guess I will have to use another address and contact info just to get through their lockout. Makes me want to go buy a new one from another brand and discard this one. Stump bumper Posted November 13, 2017 Author Posted November 13, 2017 I left the date blank and it went through just fine.
fishinwrench Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 I have more "incoherent drivel" for ya. Here goes.. Fire extinguishers are for boats that receive shoddy maintenance, and for owners who play with jumper cables. If you're on a boat and it catches on fire....Go Swimming! There's nothing on your insurance policy that says you have to stick around and try to fight the fire. You have gas and 3 hot batteries on board that can blow IMMEDIATELY, so GTFO the boat NOW. To hell with that fire extinguisher. I'll take hypothermia over burning any day of the week. That's why your "god" threatens to throw you in a pit of fire rather than dump you naked on the North Pole. Lance34 1
Stump bumper Posted November 13, 2017 Author Posted November 13, 2017 I have to agree and disagree, I once had a butterfly screw come loose on the ground (I don't use those anymore). It started a fire on the engine and the fire extinguisher saved me from loosing all my wiring. Then again the insurance paying for the motor might have been a better choice...

That falls under "shoddy maintenance". Stump bumper 1
