fishinwrench Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 Yep, trailers made specifically for 14 footers are always cheesy. Get a 16' trailer with the heavier frame and cut it down.
wily Posted November 24, 2017 Author Posted November 24, 2017 This one sucks...just got back from a test run. I called local lowe dealer earlier this week...he said 800. Which sounded like a lot but...gotta do something. This one sucks...it's an old tilt dilly trailer Seriously...if you run across one holler. The Boat is a 1436 alweld
fishinwrench Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 I'll keep an eye out, but honestly I'm pretty stingy with good trailers. They are at a premium and sell fast, so anytime I can snatch one up I'll freshen it up and make as much on it as I possibly can. Post a pic so I can see what you have to work with.
wily Posted November 24, 2017 Author Posted November 24, 2017 it sits at too big of an angle...it backs good...but wish it was further back...seems like it is way too close The Boat is cool...the motor is a 70 evinrude 18 with electric start...ru,s like a scalded ape I made the 2x6 brace in the picture today to try to keep it from twisting I think the winch is too high...Which makes it sit at bad angle...it is in the bunks though.
wily Posted November 24, 2017 Author Posted November 24, 2017 I called tracker just a minute ago...only people open today. They said 950 for a trailer for it...said it was a single axle 16 footer...maybe 800 isn't too much for the lowe
fishinwrench Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 You don't need a new trailer, that's a good sturdy frame, it just needs a bit of reconfiguring and maybe a bigger set of wheels/tires (are those 12" wheels?). You can move the axle above the springs if it sets too high with taller tires. Some fender repair, proper bunks, a fresh light harness, and some paint. That's all it needs. Drag the boat off into the yard and get busy! You can lengthen the rear bunks 8" and scoot everything back a bit, should still have plenty of tongue weight. The winch stand is mounted all wrong and needs to be readjusted, which you'll be able to do once the rear bunks are extended.
fishinwrench Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 Pretty much the same trailer I have my little jet Jon on. Notice the set back. Everything is balanced perfectly. grizwilson 1
wily Posted November 24, 2017 Author Posted November 24, 2017 Crap...I don't know if I can do all that...it was about all I could do to make my 2x6 deal this afternoon. What you have yours on...is what I want...yours sits level...has the wind bunks and stuff The tires on mine are 8s...I bought some 12 inch wheels Wednesday off a guy at work but they're 5 lugs, so would need to change that
fishinwrench Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 I can make yours just like mine for quite a bit less than you could buy a new trailer. Can't say for sure what the end cost will be until I could look it over in person, but even if you bought a brand new one it would have to be customized to fit the boat. Drop it off and I'll fix you up.
