BilletHead Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 Some really tasty fish coming from the lake now, Been twice in the last three days. I did mess with the bass some but wanted to catch eaters. On Memorial day Mrs. BilletHead and I launched in the dark knowing we only wanted to fish a few morning hours before the masses got out. We trolled with crank baits from 10 to 12 foot range. Smaller ones like the SR5 shadrap. It would begin to hit bottom in 8 foot of water. She out fished me. We landed 18 and four of those were keepers. Kept four big crappie too. Both days the water temp from 82 to 85 degrees. We also caught bass, drum, channel cat, small white bass, and bluegill. Yesterday I went back and did the same starting again with more shallow trolling. All I could catch was undersized walleye and bass in the 10 foot water depth. I then sized up to SR7 shadraps and went to pulling through 12 to 14 foot deep and began to pick up larger fish. Caught 14 and had six keepers. Kept my four and three crappie. Again caught other fish of all types, There were more fisher people out yesterday than Monday morning. May try again tomorrow, BilletHead zarraspook, tho1mas, terryj1024 and 13 others 15 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Dkman Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 BH, thank you very much for the report. I have not trolled much. Normally with small flicker shads. I need to hit this style more. Depending on the crank do you normally let out enough line combined with speed to have your crank tick off the bottom? Thanks again
BilletHead Posted May 31, 2018 Author Posted May 31, 2018 Dkman, I am kind of just a hack at it right now. Just give it a throw out there and strip off some more line and give it a go. If you are not getting bit change up. More line, less line, deeper baits. Thinking back to Monday I think the reason Mrs. BilletHead beat me so bad is she did not add any extra line out. Thus her bait was slightly shallower than mine. Trial and error my friend. If I really learn something better I will share, BilletHead. terryj1024 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Boobie Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Billet, I have always had better luck with the #7 shadrap. But they swear by the flicker shad. I have some flickers but every time I pull out the trolling box with both baits in it I always tie the shad rap on. Always catches fish!!!! BilletHead 1

You are right I have acquired quite the small arsenal of them over the years.
