Members twigss Posted June 3, 2018 Members Posted June 3, 2018 I'm trying to plan a float with friends in a couple of weeks. I'm looking for a 4-6hr float and we will be bringing our own canoes/kayaks but may need to rent some. If we take out at Washington State Park, would this make for a good float? Fishing-wise? Recreation wise? Thanks in advance for your recommendations.
timinmo Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 If you are taking out at the park where are you putting in? From the 21 bridge to the park certainly will not take 4 to 6 hours unless you want it to. From the park down to Mammoth may be better for you but you need to check with the park about canoe rentals.
moguy1973 Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 Washington state park canoe rental will put you in up at Blackwell but they will usually only do that if there is decent water levels. It's a 7 miler though and would probably take longer than 6 hours if you are fishing hard. https://www.missouriparkadventures.com/float-trips.html -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Al Agnew Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 21 bridge to the park is less than 3 miles, probably too short. Blackwell to the park is actually closer to 9 miles, regardless of what the paddling guide says—Oz Hawksley. made a mistake there, one of two mistakes I found on the mileages in his original book, and it’s never been corrected. Blackwell to 21 is closer to what you’re looking for but not sure if the park canoe rental will do it. Also not sure they do the park to Mammoth float, and it’s no more than three miles. 21 to Mammoth would be about perfect if they would do that one.
timinmo Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 I have seen them do the Blackwell to 21. I have seen some one picking people up at Mammoth, some outfitter, I assume the park people. So for what Twigss wants it seems like the Blackwell to 21 or the 21 to Mammoth if the guy that does the canoe rentals will do either. Of course it depends alot on how fast they want to go and how many stops they want to make. Three miles isn't bad for 4 hours with a long lunch and some swimming along the way.
joeD Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Blackwell to 21 is fine. Going to the park adds a couple miles, Fishing can be good if the water isn’t too muddy. As far as recreation, I prefer naked servants keeping me hydrated and healthy. Ask the Park, they will set you up. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
Members Dinkslayer Posted June 4, 2018 Members Posted June 4, 2018 If you ask nicely at the park, they will usually work with you. I've rented canoes from them and floated from 21 bridge to Mammoth and they let me bring the canoes back. I had a buddy float that area on Sunday and they seemed to have some good luck with the smallies! Daryk Campbell Sr 1
timinmo Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 JoeD, good to see you back. It seems like we haven't seen you in a while.
