Currently have a full sink line on my 8wt Streamer rod.  Thinking about switching to  more of an intermediate line (sinking tip, floating body) for ease of use.  Any suggestions for what you guys like?  Looking at Rio Streamer tip but open to suggestions.

This can be moved to the Fly Fishing section if more appropriate, but 90% of my use of this set up is wading the upper section at Tanneycomo.   Mostly interested in what works there specifically.

Thank you!!

For me the heads on F/S lines are too long and sink too slowly when cut down.  What is important to me when streamer fishing is being able to pick up and shoot the next cast immediately (and accurately) without a big wind-up.   For that I've found that carrying a selection of Rio sinking leaders in the 7' length do it best.    All of my old F/S lines are rotting in the closet, and I feel I can hold my own with just about anyone when hucking streamers.

I fish streams mostly, but agree with wrench that sinking lines suit me best in the cupboard. 5'-9' Maxima  (diy) leader on any floating line works for me, weight in the fly construction, add a split shot if needed.  In addition to not being able to pick up a sunken line til nearly all is retrieved, two other aggravations are the striped in line sinks around or between my feet making the shooting of line tougher unless a stripping basket is used and the line itself can get wrapped up in any sunken rocks, logs, root wads etc  by currents and if the water has any depth it can be impossible to retrieve the fly line.  I never lost a line that way but have seen a couple that stayed in place for years, after someone had cut them off.

I have fished full sinking fast and slow, and a sink tip fast; of these the best for me was intermediate/slow sinker used in shallow lakes for lmbass and chain pickerel, in that instance the steamers were unweighted and the slow sink rate allowed me to fish at varying water depths by counting done, takes time and patience though, and unless stripping it near the top, had the pickup and recast problem.  They all live in the shed now.

To get deeper faster the Teeny heads (with Teeny leaders) have the biggest following. I never got around to needing one.

Also not a fan of the full sinking line.  I definitely wouldn't want to try and use it wading.  I generally use floating line with versileaders or a regular leader and a weighted fly.  I have been thinking about getting a sink tip though to use in a boat working the banks.  The Rio Streamer Tip F/I grabbed my eye, it wouldn't be a very accurate casting line though.  I'd like to hear some feedback on it.  I'm also interested in the Rio Big Nasty Sink Tip.  I have the floating version of it on my 8wt.  It's nice because it's not truly a shooting taper and you can cast it a little more accurately.

Like kelly galloup always says he fishes the top 2 ft of water column.  So just go with the conditions. I have always believed that you don't have to have fancy interchangeable lines for different situations if you learn to vary your skill level to match the situation. Then again my wife won't let me but a bunch of fancy stuff or I probably would 😆
