jdmidwest Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Catfish on the Flyrod is a lot of fun. My best luck has been with a black or purple woolly bugger or leech pattern. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
gonefishin Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 I still think someone needs to come up with a liver imitation. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759

Any way of actually targeting them, or is it most often chance that causes one to hook and catch one on a long rod?> Geez! That question aroused a memory of an article in an outdoor magazine (maybe Outdoor Life---maybe NOT!) 20-30 years ago by Byron Dalrymple (anyone remember him?) about targeting Channel Cat with (IIRC!) Woolly Boogers on the clear, spring-fed streams in the Texas Hill Country. Dunno how you'd run it down but then I'm not a good 'Googler'. I've picked up a few by sheer accident over the years---mostly on nymphs and Boogers IIRC. Gavin Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Pond catfish love hot dogs..but you can fly cast with them..Slim Jims work great. Cheers.
Quillback Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Crippled Caddis - I remember reading that article years ago, it was either Field and Stream or Outdoor Life. It was unusual to read about flyfihing for catfish, I guess that's why I remember it.
Randall Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 i caught this and several others at my mom's pond on an egg pattern with a sink tip line... as soon as the egg got to the bottom, they smacked it. into the backing twice. Cute animals taste better.
