dan hufferd Posted September 16, 2018 Posted September 16, 2018 Anybody try this ? I drilled a small hole as near to the split ring as possible, then ran a drop line with a bell sinker. Then I just tie to the lure as normal. Being able to keep the bait near bottom and stop it when ever I want is the idea, I might even be able to vertical jig it a little. I hope to cast and retrieve this thing. What do you think? It might just make a mess??
nomolites Posted September 16, 2018 Posted September 16, 2018 Interesting; worth a try at SLOW speed I think. Maybe removing the top hook and keeping the lead too short to hang on the rear? I know my Wally Divers have the weight directly on the underside of the bill. I’d be Interested to hear how it works compared to using a B.B. Mike dan hufferd 1
kjackson Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 Rather than do that, I'd use a clip-on weight ahead of the crank bait...or lead core. An in-line weight is another possibility, but that takes more effort to dial in. dan hufferd 1
kjackson Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 I fished Green Bay last week for a day trip, and when we went after big fish, the guide used clip-on weights to bring the deep-diving crankbaits down close the bottom. With the newish deep Bandits, we were able to get down to 30+ feet. In the past, I've used downriggers, Dipsey Divers and Jet Divers to get gear down to where i wanted it, and clip-on weights are the easiest. The only issue I have with them is that you have to remove them when bringing a fish in, unless you put the weight close to the lure. dan hufferd 1
Blazerman Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 i was thinking of doing this too only with a 3- way swivel. Have a weight on the bottom line and a suspending jerkbait off the other with 18" -24" of leader. I believe the goal would be getting it closer to the bottom and i am thinking having the bait tied on a 3- way might make it act more like it is supposed too.

fishinwrench Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Back when Smithville was producing hawgs a Carolina rigged jerkbait (floater) was a big secret for awhile. Some tried a 3-way swivel (wolf rig) but just a regular old 3/4oz. C-rig with a 3-4' leader always took the money. Blazerman and dan hufferd 1 1
