It is close to 15 miles from Mutton Creek by water to the CC bridge as shown on my trip meter. Was thinking about making the run in my boat a couple weeks ago, and I measured the distance with google maps. Flysmallie 1 -Austin
Flysmallie Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 It’s been many years but I’ve made the run from the state park to the CC area several times. It’s farther than 20 miles and includes many dangerous obstacles. It’s not just a ride down the lake. And if you get down there and the wind picks up it’s a hell of a ride to get back. If you want to fish around CC then unload at CC. Mutton Creek works too, that’s where I usually went, but again you have to be careful of the obstacles. Once you learn where to run it’s not bad but you can’t just go running down the lake.
liphunter Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 I really agree with that. Have made the run from Mutton to CC several times, but not enough to be overly comfortable with it. There is a section in there where I slow it down and take my time. If I'm going to fish the CC area. Then I launch at CC. Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???
MrGiggles Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Good to know, that's what I figured. Is there a lot of timber down there, or just shallow? -Austin
liphunter Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 There is certain area just a little ways after you turn south coming from mutton that's got a little of both going on, bust mostly a timber issue. Being cheap and not wanting to pay heavy repair bills, I just kind of pic my way through there. That being said, I think a guy who knows the area well would probably run at a decent clip... Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???
Dutch Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 I probably make that run from Mutton Creek to CC around 20 times each year. The most serious shallow water is above Springfield Cove. I don't run much over 40 mph because of all of the switch backs which at least double the distance. One can only follow the fields and stay away from the channel because that is where 90% of the trees are located. I spent a few minutes with google maps and got 16 miles from the dam to the Hwy Y bridge.
zarraspook Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Here is parts of a 1975 TOPO map of Stockton in the area your talking about.. I have used it since 1986 and found it to be true.. but, by now a lot of the trees have rotted off and fell over.. I tried to paste them together but it didn't work.. liphunter 1 "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
liphunter Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Spot on. That’s pretty much the path I travel. Thanks Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???

You get it figured out and you can pretty much run wide open through all of this. But man you are going to be passing some of the best spots on Stockton. I could spend the rest of my life fishing that bottom map. liphunter 1

I only make the run if I am looking for white bass or shallow crappie.
