JohnP Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Looking for suggestions on color combinations and designs on tying crawler harnesses for trolling for walleye primarily Bull Shoals. Started getting into it last year with some generic basic store bought rigs and decided to make my own. His a couple I've rigged up already, hopefully they pull in a fish or 2 this year. nomolites 1
kjackson Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I've not fished Bull, so I can't say what colors I would choose for that lake. But, it is difficult to make a bad choice in colors if you're building a bunch of spinners as most every color combo will work at some point. Silver, gold, copper, chartreuse and white blades all work. So do orange and red-and-white, blue, purple and some of the baitfish patterns. I prefer floats for bodies as I like the bit of buoyancy they provide. Colors of bodies almost mimic those of the blades. For a basic stock, I'd choose chartreuse, orange, silver and gold blades and chartreuse, gold, silver and orange bodies. Having said that, I'd also stock some of Yakima Bait's Spin-N-Glos in some of the same colors. Those little, spinning floats are deadly on walleyes. JohnP and Quillback 2
Tanderson15 Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I’ve got ever color of blade for building spinners from years of walleye fish up north and down here the last 9 years. I’ve had best luck using copper and gold spinners with orange or chartreuse floats. Colorado deep cut blades. 3 to 4 ft leader at most because of snags. That’s all I tie now. Members BIGmike Posted January 17, 2019 Members Posted January 17, 2019 The Twin Lakes Walleye Club in Mountain Home has a member only email program for fishing reports. They give a lot of good tips (and photos) of what rigs were successful that day, how deep, general wheres, and specifics like on or sides of main/secondary points. Photos speak a thousand words. Here is my selection and rig tying table. Yes, I MAY have a problem......Junkie tho? That's not all what I've got since sizes are different down here from the rivers of the great lakes. JohnP 1
