shark bait Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 Any one fish the SWEPCO lake? Is there a forum for it? What works well on that lake. Thinking of fishing it. Becky B
Quillback Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 Haven't fished it this year, but have quite a bit in the past. It's always been a plastics lake for me, c-rigs, T-rigs, wobble heads. The lake fishes better when the plant is running and when the discharge is hot, 90+ degrees. The bass love to get up in that discharge, but everybody that fishes that lake knows that so it's a busy spot, but if you go during the week, get to that discharge before the sun comes up you can catch numbers and size there. The bass have Florida strain genetics and spawn early, they should be spawning about now. It's a good lake for quality fish. I'd stay away on the weekends if you can, it can get really and I mean really crowded during the winter. I've been meaning to get over there myself. shark bait 1

Quillback Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 Couple of things that are noted wrongly in that thread, Swepco is around 700 acres, not 200, and the ramp has been rebuilt since 2006 and is a decent ramp with a courtesy dock off to the side. The ramp is exposed to the wind and it's not unusual to have whitecaps coming across it on a windy day. Swepco is not a big lake, but it is exposed to the wind so keep that in mind. snagged in outlet 3 1
shark bait Posted February 3, 2019 Author Posted February 3, 2019 Thanks for the information. Unfortunately the only time I can fish it is on weekends unless I take a vacation day. Becky B

Might be worth waiting until March or April, once the tourneys get started on the big lakes it helps ease the pressure on Swepco. shark bait 1
Members Joenothum Posted February 4, 2019 Members Posted February 4, 2019 Use to live in Gentry. We called it the hot tub. I college, we would go swim there in December if the plant was going. The discharge is always good if you can get a spot. Its fairly clear and the bass seemed to spawn just on the edge of how deep you could actually see bottom. I always had luck on C-rigs and square bills. But its been a couple years since I lived there. February is certainly the time to go since the water usually cools off enough for them to spawn. I can remember one February it was mild and we had a good top water bite. Its a fun lake, always seemed to catch a few. shark bait 1
Sprint21fter Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 Fished there today in a club tournament, It was slow for us. Take a number at the intake, we caught ours on C-Rigs. Some fish had spawned alot of empty beds. Fish we caught hadn't dropped any eggs. Big fish was just shy of 7lbs. shark bait 1
