bferg Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 I am looking to add a couple of new crank bait rods to the quiver. I am looking for a meadium or MH moderate action rod in the 7'0 range... BPS has the Johnny Morris Carbonlite 2.0 on sale right now for $99.00. ($85 if I trade in a rod)... Do any of you have any experience with these rods? Thoughts? Any other suggestions for a cranking rod in the $80-$120 range?
snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Are those the white ones that someone on here said were breaking??
bferg Posted February 15, 2019 Author Posted February 15, 2019 They are the white ones... I would be curious if anyone had issues with breaking.
Members BillT Posted February 15, 2019 Members Posted February 15, 2019 I have one but not used it alot. It's medium power and medium action and I use it for crankbaits and lipless baits. I've not had any problems with it. I really like the rod. It is lightweight and I really like it. I'll be using it more this spring. I've debated buying another, but am waiting to see how it performs with more fishing under its belt.
Alex Heitman Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Lew’s makes a wart rod that is great for 6-12 ft cranks snagged in outlet 3 1
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 If your in Springfield area go to Fin & Feather and check out the Denali Kovert rods. They are hard to beat for $99. And if you ever have an issue they will take care of it.
1farmer Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 I have used the carbonlite rods for the last ten years, this is both the black earlier ones and the recent white ones. Part of these were micro guide rods, And like most micro guides the guides are kinda flimsy. Sensitivity is about average. As far as breakage, I have broken four of these rods in the last ten years, non of these breaks were the fault of the rod if you know what I mean. snagged in outlet 3 1
slothman Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 I got a Lew’s Perfect Palmer crankbait rod a couple of years ago. I have been very happy with it. I actually like the “Palmer” style even better than the standard, especially for deep diving cranks.
1farmer Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 The only moderate action rod in the carbonlite line is the JCT70MTM 7 ft medium moderate action.I have used this rod 3 or 4 years, it has a real good feel and enough give to keep the fish on the hooks.
1farmer Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 I will say that the newer rods are stiffer than the black ones in the crank bait rod. It doesn't cast the 1/4 ounce and less crank baits as good as the older model, but will handle everything up to a 6Xd very well.
