olfishead Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 Put in at Mutton Creek Wednesday evening with the wife and son. Trolled flicker shads (forgot the night crawlers to use to bottom bounce) Caught a short walleye and a BIG drum - (5lbs. +) but the evening was saved by the surfacing white bass. Caught 20 nice ones in about 45 minutes, close to the shore. What fun! Rattle traps work well. Flysmallie, wtr dogs, Mr. Walleye and 2 others 5
MOPanfisher Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 Drum are fun to catch, rattle traps are my favorite poison for white bass, if it doubt run them faster. Many a so so trip has been turned around by white bass.
Members smiling mallard Posted August 18, 2019 Members Posted August 18, 2019 Kris Nelson showed me how you can still catch them after they stop surfacing at dark by YO-YOing a 1/2 oz. trap or a red-eye off the bottom. I've always known a lot of the older fish just wait on the bottom for injured shad to come fluttering down but had never had as much success after they sound at dark like I did with this technique. Tail spinners & Blade baits work well also for bigger fish under the schoolies.
olfishead Posted August 18, 2019 Author Posted August 18, 2019 Thanks S. Mallard for the advice! Any advice for thinning out that mass of whites is appreciated.
