AR Huzgr Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 Heading down for a day trip Monday from kc. Only been to Stockton one other time. I see forecast for wind is about 10mph, gusting to low 20's. SSW direction. Was just curious with a wind forecast like that are there any particular areas of the lake I should avoid? I was planning on fishing essentially North half of the lake from State Park up to the dam. I have a 17 foot deep v aluminum. not too worried about it but just want to take precautions not knowing the lake as I've heard they can get some big waves. Was planning on putting in at Crabtree but thinking perhaps Orleans trail or something on the west side might be better as if it gets too Windy, I could cut over to the west side and fish those areas.
blacknoseddace Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 Crabtree ramp will be out of the wind. Windy banks from Crabtree to the dam provide good spinnerbait oppourtunities. If it gets crazy windy you can get back to the ramp easily by staying off the main lake.
AR Huzgr Posted September 28, 2019 Author Posted September 28, 2019 Thanks for the info. Just wasn't sure if there were any areas of the lake prone to really big rollers with ssw wind in the low 20's, that I should avoid. I'll just stay aware! Thanks again!

Yeah, from Hawker up to the dam. It's wide open there with no wind breaks, especially if the wind is straight from the south. With a breeze like that it shouldn't be too bad. If gusting 30+ you should probably just stay on the little sac arm, it's a little more sheltered. AR Huzgr 1 -Austin
Dutch Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 Anything north of Mutton Creek down to the dam will get a bit rough if the wind gets over 15 mph. The Little Sac will be a lot quieter with a SW wind.
Dutch Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 I just heard a report that says wind south with gusts to 25 you may want to go to the Little Sac.
AR Huzgr Posted September 29, 2019 Author Posted September 29, 2019 Thanks for the feedback. May be better to play safer and stay South this time. Will have to scout new areas!
zarraspook Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 I don't think I'm giving away any secrets here but, If your new to this end of the lake and putting in a Mutton Creek..... nomolites and Walleyedmike 2 "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
AR Huzgr Posted September 29, 2019 Author Posted September 29, 2019 Thanks for the suggestions. Given wind, I think I'll see if any of them Bass, walleye and crappie are present in the mutton areas. Looking forward to learning new areas!
Dutch Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 You do what you want, but if it were me, with a 17’ boat I’d be looking at Stockton State Park and fishing in the Little Sac.
