bobby b. Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Out for a couple hours Friday afternoon and mid morning Saturday. Waited until 11 am on Saturday because that is what time was best for me on Friday morning. The bite was better on Friday afternoon than Saturday morning as it had been on previous days. There was lots of fish graphing on Saturday morning which gave me high expectations. I used all the typical vertical baits that had been working and used various colors of the tiny fluke and the ice jig and only had a couple fish on Saturday. Even had some buddies show up on Saturday (see pic) and they did much better than me. The fish were a bit smaller as well. WT 51 deg. Bobby Dock-in-it, evilcatfish, merc1997 Bo and 6 others 9
Dock-in-it Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 The deep water fish are using all depths in the water column and feeding on very small shad. The fish above 35ft are tough to fool, but they will eat a swimbait or grub once in a while. The deep fish are in a different mood each day and some days they can be extremely difficult to catch regardless of how many are looking at your bait at one time. A lot of fish are suspended at depths for the a-rig to be very effective. I have tried a jerkbait a few times on the deep fish suspended in the 15-20ft range but it has not worked for me. magicwormman 1
bobby b. Posted December 15, 2019 Author Posted December 15, 2019 interesting, I find that there is bite at 20 fow but it is always Spots and usually the deep fish above, in, or below the shad are mostly SM (75%) or LM (25%). I have tried jerk bait as well hoping that would start as it is a favorite. I have not tried the A rig yet but I will next time out. big c 1
bobby b. Posted December 18, 2019 Author Posted December 18, 2019 Back out for 2 hours this afternoon (Tuesday). The tons of bait fish have left my spots close to the house (dock), tried anyway as a few fish graphed near the bottom in 60 fow but no luck. Did catch this one barely keeper on a mega 110 in 15 fow on 45 degree chuck rock bank . WT 50 deg. Although it was only 32 degrees outside the lack of wind and a bit of sun made it pleasant to be out after having been stuck in the house for two days. Not another boat in sight. magicwormman, Dock-in-it and big c 3
