Flyfisher for men Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 My elderly father and I have tossed around the idea of floating and fishing a Missouri stream next June. He's got a 12 ft. Aluminum semi-V-Bottom with a 6 HP outboard. If we floated from one of the accesses near Bennett Spring , how much portaging would we have to do? We'd be interested in any rivers you'd recommend in the western half of the state .We'd be targeting LM or SM bass, panfish, etc. Trout would be a welcome bonus.
fishinwrench Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 You won't need/want the outboard. I can only think of one possible portage, and it isn't really a "portage". One of you may have to hop out and pull/guide for 30 feet or so. There are 3 spots between Bennett and Prosperine where you'll wanna be careful that the boat doesn't get sideways. Other than that it's an easy float.
Gavin Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Pretty easy float but would rent a canoe. That & waders is all you need. Kinda small for a motor. Gravel will shred your prop.

I would like to put in and take out at the same spot so I don't have to have my campground owner drop me off. Would that be doable between Barclay and Nianagua Lake? I'm not wanting to run the whole distance; just a 6-8 mi float like between Moon Valley and Bennett ot Bennett and Barclay. We've done kayaks or canoes on that part of the river. I'm thinking of putting in at the Lead Mine Conservation area. Phil
