Ryan Miloshewski Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 My buddy got a new boat and wanted to "de-virgin" it as he put it so eloquently. We were going to go to Pomme de Terre but folks on here wisely steered us away due to the high, muddy water. So, we decided to try Truman. And I am glad we did. The bite was on fire from 10am-1:30 pm in the mouths of creeks in 12-18 FOW. We were throwing 2" Slab Slay'rs in red/chartreuse on 1/16-ounce jig heads from Pro Built. I really like those jig heads. We ended up with 20 or so crappie. Kept 11 good ones. Not that any were short, but we were catching big ones. We put in at Bucksaw and went west, under the 801 Rd bridge. Main way we caught them was to tie up to a tree in 15-20 fow and throw out as far as we could. Let it sink a bit, then SLOWLY wind it back to the boat. And I do mean slow. Spider riggers (which I hate fishing that way) were catching a lot so I figured this imitated it best. And it worked. We caught 6 dunking trees in 10-13 fow. The fish are putting the bag on! I caught my two best crappie ever in Missouri. One was 1.6-lbs and the other 1.4-lbs. One was a male, too! Going to be a banner year on Truman again for crappie I do believe.
