4/9/20 Shell Knob & Kings River

Took off with the intent of catching some crappie.  My dad was with me and crappie are his thing.  Launched at the Shell Knob bridge around 7 and fished until after 4.  Ended the day with only 5 crappie total and only 2 of those were keepers.  Dad caught all the crappie but one.  I bass fished on and off throughout the day and had over 20 bass.  I think I could have caught a lot more had we not been looking for crappie.  

Water temps around Shell Knob were right around 60.  As we went up the Kings the water warmed.  Warmest water we found was 67.  The crappie all came on 1/32 feather jigs.  They all came from the same small cut in the Kings and were all in right about 8 ft of water.  The bass came on spinnerbait and jerkbait and were pretty much all hammering it.  There was one smallie and the rest were an even split of spots and LM.  Only 4 would have been keepers and nothing of any real size.

Wind got pretty rough by the end of the day, but, overall was a beautiful day on the water with dad.  Lots of sunshine and birds singing.  Catching some fish was a bonus.  Will post some pic later.

Good deal, have a source that told me one of his buddies was on the Kings either yesterday or the day before and was targeting crappie and didn't do too well either.

Ya, it was slow.  I know a few people that were down Tues and Weds and had 40+ each day.  They said most were males and were in the 8-10 foot range.  We were hoping we could find some of those, but, I guess the cool front that came through slowed them down.
