Always wondered what the chuck and duck deal was, now I know.  Used to use a similar rig except on a bait caster for steelhead fishing, with eggs clusters.

Sorry Phil, but you were just drifting through a wad of fish and snagging some in the mouth. That is what chuck n duck rigs are designed to do. Same with an egg sack and a pencil lead on gear. Not quite as bad as center pin fishing because your not drifting 100 yards.
