Maybe someone here can help me out. Taking the familt for a short trip Aug 5,6,7 (Wed-Fri).

Is a reservation necessary or needed?

Can you and would you recommend beaching the boat on the waterfront if I had a waterfront site?

Anything else that would be good to know?

Thanks

I dont think you need a reservation. Or at least you didnt years ago. Just go pick out your spot and then go tell the hosts and fill out your card to post. I'm pretty sure there are several places that would be ok to beach your boat. Sandy and pebble rock places. I assume you have an aluminum boat?  Or a hull guard? Hope you get a break from the hot weather.

With the current situation,  my bet is a reservation is required.  People beach boats there all the time but they will be subject to all of the boat wakes from traffic.

Dam Site or Lightfoot would provide better protection for your boat.

While reservations are not required, every week has been nearly 100% full.  So if you want to be sure you have a site then make a reservation.  You certainly can beach your boat, people do it all the time, but they get beat up by wakes etc.  Depends on what kind of boat and how particular you are about it.  Personally I would launch and retrieve it and park it at site.

Thanks MOPanfisher. When you say its been full every week, are referring to weekends or weekdays too? We want to come wed, Thursday, leave Friday.

I kind of wanted to pick out site out as opposed to reserve g as I am not sure which sites we would like. Tenting and just need electric and shade, is there a bad one on the waterfront?

Weekdays are not nearly as full.  Weekends are normally 100% for electric sites.  Some of the water front sites lost a lot of trees/shade after the flood, and we had ro remove a lot of trees.  More will die as time goes on.  If you want to be sure to have one, pick out one to reserve and you can change to a different site once you get there, you just have to check in with the attendant to get it on the computer to make sure it doesn't get reserved out from under you.

I am not sure about Nemo, but I just stayed at Osage Bluff Campground on Truman.  Walk-ins were not allowed due to the COVID factor.  I don't understand why but that was the rule.  Weekends required a 2 night reservation.  Every site had to be reserved on-line.  My experience with Nemo is that even without the COVID factor it is always booked on weekends all summer long.  You might be able to get some of the non-electrical sites but I doubt too many of the electrical sites will be available with only a week or two notice.
