Members Ruger5555 Posted September 8, 2020 Author Members Posted September 8, 2020 Had a great time and boated a few fish. Beautiful area. I learned a lot and explored a lot. I knew this trip would be more exploration and familiarization trip. The majority of the other boaters and fishermen were super nice and friendly, but ran into a few that thought they owned the river. Had a group of kayakers give me dirty looks, literally give me the thumbs down (better than the middle finger right?), and 6 of them purposely tried to block the river and then decided to move, but 1 guy sat there and glared like I shot his dog. It was probably pretty difficult for them to comprehend that they might meet a fishing boat on a river literally just below a boat ramp. I saw them probably 80 yards upriver and idled to them and past them trying to be as courteous as possible. What's funny is my guide put in at Houseman and they would have not liked the way he drove! I drove like an old grandma compared to him lol. One morning I idled past a trout guide boat 30 yards away and gave a friendly wave and the guide gave me a "go f yourself" look and just glared. He went upriver past me an hour later not at idle and once again refused to wave lol. At least I know what company to avoid if I ever want a trout guide or have someone ask me if I have a recommendation. This was all below Houseman. I did make it to 62 one of the days and tried to be as courteous as possible, but there also weren't many kayaks or boats. I knew it was a touchy subject having read this thread BEFORE my trip. I try to extend courtesy and follow the rules. My understanding is it's no wake above 62? Is Beavertown no wake? The local guide ran me through there about 35 mph the first day I was there. The next day there were no wake buoys that were protecting the beach. I took that as no wake behind the buoys protecting the beach, but channel still ok. Some said it was no wake and some buoys were just for swim beach protection. With them appearing over night I doubt they are COE approved? It was about 50 50 of who idled through and who wasn't. If it were no wake I figured they would run perpendicular to the channel at north and south ends, not horizontal to the north beach. Quillback 1
rps Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 Beaver town beach and launch are NOT no wake, but frequently have kayaks around. If they have the swim float out be careful for young swimmers. Ruger5555 1

Then Friday morning there was probably 6 standard white no wake buoys along there to shield the beach/swim float from channel from railroad bridge up north 100 yards or so. I was going maybe 10 mph but putting out wake and a guy pulls up beside me to yell that it was no wake. I said and motioned I took it as no wake behind the buoys. He told me to "learn to f'ing read" 😆 Clearly I wasn't going that fast and reckless for that conversation to happen. Sometimes you just gotta shake your head and laugh at people. snagged in outlet 3 and Quillback 2

Seems like you're at the mercy of whoever is there at the time. I think you were legal. Even that old thread written by the Beaver Dam Store was nebulous at best.... He didn't even know the regs and his business is there. Good luck!

Once the weather gets cold, the fishing gets better and the annoying summer people go away. Hang in there. 😁 snagged in outlet 3 1

Hang in there. 😁 No worries. There are good and bad people anywhere a person goes. I was asking for trouble on a holiday weekend lol. Like I said 99% of the people were super friendly and nice. I can't say that I missed any of the power boats and cruisers like what's on LOZ. I went all the way up to Kimberling City one day and traffic wasn't bad at all and pretty smooth. snagged in outlet 3 and Quillback 2
