Lake Taneycomo Drift Rig

Recommended Posts

I've had terrible luck with those things on bass fishing with them sliding and a braiding the line, and that is heavier line. I'd personally be scared of them on 4 and 6 lb test. The swivel also lets you select a different leader line size from your main line. Great suggestion however.

I also like the swivel as a prevention as far as line twist on these small baits

If your catching 3 to 6 pound and sometimes above trout on generation  dragging jerk baits on 2 pound test line I totally yield the floor to you.

Again, I just need a bit beefer set up to protect my lite line and still be able to control these bigger than average trout.

2 pound on jerk baits is above my pay grade

Good luck

I drag the jerkbait on 4 and the scud egg combo on 2. No ill intent meant at all.  Just was sharing a trick that worked for me this year is all.  One other thing is, guys that don't fish as much as you or me or others may not be able to tie a knot as good with light line and this trick only leaves one knot instead of three so it cuts down some on that part. Again not arguing at all, especially with you just was adding to the discussion. Happy new year Sir.

Am I correct in my assumption that this is a rig for when they are running water? Also, does it see much use below Fall Creek?

Yes for when water is running although you can technically use anytime. Bait fisherman use it below Fall Creek all the time.

Huh - I would have figured bait guys would be using real minnows or shiners.

They typically do, but dragging jerkbaits and flies still produces below the trophy area. Some don't want to bother with constantly rebaiting or risk deep hooking fish so they will resort to artificials and flies. The drift rig is just a term for the swivel/sinker/leader combo. What you put on the end of it is totally up to you.
