We did a few trips a long time ago.   One with scouts the other unsanctioned.  Used Tom and Woods, which I think now goes by a different name but you can google search and it should come up.  You can stay close or they can haul you somewhere and drop you off.  Lots of great fishing.  Take 100% Deet.  If it’s not melting your watch band it’s not good enough!  And when paddling from place to place, drop a big red devil spoon down, pin your rod under one leg and troll to your next spot.  We caught several deep lake trout doing that.

A fishing partner that has since retired used to own Norway lodge on Crane Lake.   I always went in up the Gunflint or Rainy,  they offered a service to ferry you into the park and closer to true wilderness without paddling the first day or two.  It would be worth a look, sounded like a nice deal always.  They rented canoes and whole campsite gear.  I think his niece owns it now.  Nice people.

We always use Williams and Hall Outfitters outside Ely on Moose Lake. Call Dave, he can answer any questions and provide fishing advice as well.

We stay at their lodge before entering BW the next morning. They motor our canoe to the first portage to save us a half day of paddling. Then meet us at drop off on our return day. Would be advised if only staying 4 days.

We missed last year due to COVID, but had been the previous 5 years. We usually stay 10-14 days. It is quite the trip, and you will want to return each year. Smallmouth are all we fish for and go middle of June, as that is around spawn. Sorry, know nothing about walleye, but that is the primary target for many fishermen.

Have a great time. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Save yourself a heart attack...take your boat to lake Kabetagoma and reserve one of the Boat-in campsites in the park.

we went to ash river trail a couple years ago...fishing was good, but we went 1st week of June.  plenty of solitude, and a Steak dinner with cold beer is available close-by.

I dreamt about doing a boundary waters trip...but I’m out of shape...and honestly didn’t want to work that hard on vacation.

i was planning to go to the arrowhead section.  I would definitely base camp.  That time of year the fishing will be tough.
