Look for a pin hole in the fuel pump diaphragm, a carb float level that is set too high, or an ignition issue that is causing inconsistent firing, or firing out of time. Could it be too rich of a mixture? I am replacing the fuel pump as well. Firestone is back to life. Started on first pull with the push button choke
