I am planning a trip for three days in Sept. to go fishing at Bennett Springs. My wife and I will not be wading and I wanted to know of some good spots to fish. I will be fly fishing and she using a spinning rod. I grew up fishing the parks but have not been to Bennett in 30 years. What are some good flies that time of the year and were can we fish from the bank? What would be good for my wife to use on her spinning rod? Thanks for all the help. We are looking forward to seeing the park and taking some time to relax.

You can stand on the bank and cast just about anywhere, but the main reason for wading is to get better position for a good drift.   If all you are doing is drifting TP flys under a bobber then you'll just have shorter drifts and it will challenge your casting skills.

You can definitely catch a limit without ever getting your feet wet, it's just far more efficient if you can strategically choose your position.

Yarn worms on a 1/80oz. jighead are very boring...... but highly effective.

Thanks for the advice. I may end up wading if we come back again. I certainly understand your point about drift and position.

A lot of Folks bank fish in zone 2, just above the whistle bridge with spin outfits only.

The easiest way to fish the whistle bridge is to cast a John deere (gree with yellow eye spot) microjig under a float and keep up with the drift to prevent too much slack as it comes back to the bridge. She could also fish the weighted globall jigs. The tricolored ones or the brown colored ones work really well but can be tough to get a hook set. I would suggest 4# or better yet 2# flouro or hybrid line. If she wants to fish without a float and can cast a microjig, the white or cream are great since you can see them in the clear water. The john deere will work as well but are harder to see the baits. Just twitch and pause on the retrieve. If a trout follows it down on the pause set the hook when it's gills flare. 1/16 white and pink or salmon marabou jigs work well near the banks since the fish are used to folks cleaning fish above the bridge. Cast and jigging it back or letting it sit on bottom will get strikes. All of these will work above the bridge as well.

Thanks so much for the help. My wife will try all of those tips. She love to fish and I have some small floats I can have her use. I will pick up the micro jigs when we get to the park.

Check out Weaver's Tackle Store. They have a great selection of microjigs and marabous.

Just a pair of comfortable pair of knee-high rubber boots can be handy in a lot of places and allow you to wade out a few feet.

Thanks all for the advice. We are staying at Fishing Tales resort right next to Weavers so we will check out the store and get her some of the jigs and tackle. I like the idea of rubber boots and was thinking that is a good idea. Thanks again.
