How is the lake fishing now?

Cold front/weather change big north wind  losing right into the Fairfield ramp.  Yep that would have sucked.  Sometimes it just be that way.  I have a buddy that comes down from western Nebraska once or twice a year.  You can bank on rain cold front 30 plus mph winds or all the above when he comes down.

We went up and fished last Thursday afternoon and Saturday.  Front came thru Weds and big chill Friday morning.

We  fished out of Long Shoal the afternoon we arrived, went up and fished the coves and timber.  Water was clear and calm 70 degrees.  Shad were schooled in the trees and some bass were feeding.  Chartreuse crank baits seemed to dredge a few up.  Beautiful afternoon.  Lake was really low and dangerous out of main channels.  One keeper largemouth for me and 2 for the wife.

Friday morning was cool and we decided to do the tour of the area.  We drove to several of the ramps, hit the antiques and gun shops in Warsaw.  I just was not in mood for fishing that day.

Saturday, we split up and I went to Bucksaw access.  Water was a muddy mess up there and really full of trees, walls of trees.  Pelicans were feeding in them and the shad were there.  We hammered the water pretty hard, the wife busted a school of 1 nice white bass.  Only fish of the day.  Nice lunch at the Marina, very good shrimp poor boy.

The whole trip got funked up 20 minutes after we hit the first cove Thursday, phone started ringing.  Finally answered knowing something must be wrong.  32 y/o cousin was killed in Waterloo Thursday morning on his motorcycle, ran off road and hit culvert, ejected.  Too young, too soon.  His Dad had brought him up from Texas and they had been touring and camping on motorcycles since August.  They had brought their toy hauler and stayed at the farm for a few weeks.  Shook me up pretty good.
