I use palomar most often because it's strong and easier for me to tie than a clinch or improved clinch.  But any good knot tied right and pulled up tight with a little spit to lube it is fine.  No more free advice either buster.  Fifty cents a question, dollar if I think you already know the answer.

I've always used Palomar with heavier line.

I've landed 3 20 pound plus freshwater drum on 6 pound line this fall/winter.  Took lots of line off drag numerous times but wore them out eventually.

Those were BIG drum.

I'd try one medium, with 8 and the other with 10. Like has been said I've caught 20+ pound drum on my medium crankbait rod with 8, 15 pound flathead catfish out of a tree on dropshot rod with 8 also. If you don't trust your drag learn to back reel. Good line is hard to break unless nicked, stretched or has a bad knot ( I use a Uni for almost everything).

I just respooled a Daiwa 1500 Exceller / 6'6" ML Falcon original with 8 lb. Suffix.  Not fancy but serves me well enough.  Pretty much my idea of what a medium set up should more or less be.  I've also got a 6'6" ML St. Croix Premier with a President on it, also 8 lb.  I'm boring.  Predictably so.

I use a double Palomar knot for line to lure/hook. I fish Yozuri Hybrid because it is inexpensive with fluoro traits and ties a good knot.

10# is my line for medium heavy.

For ML I use 6 or 8#.

Stick with the 4# on the ultrelights.

Just my 2 cents.
