Foghorn Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Susie and I have 9 grandkids 4 of which are still young enough to want to do things with us. Our youngest daughter, Brittani has 4 from 11 to 6 years old. If you take all 4 of them for any overnight stay you will be busy. This weekend we got the 2 oldest boys for a 2 night stay. We started the morning off at Millstream Gardens for the Midwest Whitewater championships. Got there around 09:30 and the main parking areas were relatively sparse. Once we got close enough to see the course, there must have been 7-8 people in every car. There was still plenty of places to sit only not so comfortable on my almost 71 year old body. The boys attention span lasted maybe 30",then they began their normal rock climbing and playing along the stream. Saw some good "runs" and had kayakers as far away as from the state of Washington . . So now it's time to head out and I offer a rip to explore the "Silver Mines" area or go to see the Civil War museum at Pilot Knob. It's Silver Mines to see the stream and the old dam. That was a good choice as I hadn't been there in close to 55 years. The boys enjoyed the hike and scenery and Susie and I were pretty gassed from the rugged trail. Foghorn Posted March 16, 2024 Author Posted March 16, 2024 So now it's time for lunch I'm thinking but Susie wants to got to Ironton to eat at the "Iron Mule". We head back West on Hwy.72, pass Lake Killarney and into Arcadia Valley. A nice lunch and my bad hip is thinking home. Nope, we go to see the Civil War site at Pilot Knob. We got home after a 7 hour and 30" trip and hopefully a good night sleep for all. The weather was beautiful and so was the scenery and the time spent with the grandkids.
