TG,

Great info. I just got back from Walker Lake a few minutes ago (long lunch hour). I was able to land 2 bows today. But it was very windy, it was hard to cast the fly rod. I did not know the depth of the lake so your info will help me out in my future visits.

Lunch time at Wild Acres... brought 2 stocker 'bows to hand, both on glo-balls. Probably missed 6 or more, a little slow to pull the trigger. All in all good times for the 35 minutes I got to spend there.

Hit Wild Acres at lunch, around 11:30 am. Caught 5 in 30 minutes, then it started to pour down rain and they turned off. Soaked, back to work. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

6 fish to hand in 25 minutes today all on a green roach with black head.

As info, anyone planning on hitting Busch this weekend or next....

If you want to travel from St. Charles County to Chesterfield and east Saturday, no problem. But heading west will be another story.

At 5 a.m. Saturday, the Missouri Department of Transportation will close the westbound Highway 40 Daniel Boone Bridge over the Missouri River for repairs. The closure will last until about 7 p.m. Sunday.

And unless the job goes quicker than anticipated, MoDOT will repeat the closure the following weekend.

The three westbound Highway 40 lanes at the Boone bridge carry about 40,000 vehicles daily. MoDOT officials said Tuesday they want to finish the work before the big Highway 40 shutdown in St. Louis County on Jan. 2. But the Boone closure has grabbed the attention of Chesterfield officials, who are questioning the timing with holiday shopping in full swing at Chesterfield Commons and the local mall.

Jefferson Lake is a lost cause because they're lining up in swarms the day of the stocking to get at the trout. I've actually seen people stick their hands in after the truck left and pull fish out by hand. That, combined with the fact that you have to drive through the equivalent of South Central L.A. to get there, and you're better off going somewhere else.

 As someone who lives in nearby S. City and works across the street from Jefferson Lake, always cracks me up to see comments from folks who apparently don't get out of the county much.

Just to pique your interest/curiosity, next time you feel a tug on your line, dont be surprised if your leader snaps or your rod gets yanked out of your hand. When they say they are stocking a few lunkers, they are NOT lying to you.

I guess I better log off, someone's probably breaking into my car or my house! ;)

Hey, I was RAISED in South City, a rough part of the state streets near Roosevelt High School. Where I've lived or haven't lived has no bearing on the fact that I know how to call a spade a spade.

The fact is, Jefferson Lake is in a shitty neighborhood, however seeing that monster you have pictured is making me rethink my opinion of whether or not it's worth it to drive through said shitty neighborhood to get to it!

Cheers!

Jefferson Lake in Forest Park isnt so bad. Been there a couple times this year and I've never felt concerned about my safety, plus the Barnes Hospital ER is withing walking distance..I think its probably your best bet inside the 270 loop because its got more water and more fish. Cheers.

Hey guys~ for the record, I didn't catch that monster. In fact, I've been skunked the past 2 years I've tried the city lakes (I'm blushing for even admitting that, pretty sad I cant land a stocker trout). I found that on another local fishing site. Definitely motivation to make a few more casts in the freezing cold when you know that caliber of fish is possibly out there.

Here's the info from that lucky fisherman:

Jefferson Lake:

I've been a long time reader, but haven't submitted before. This site has helped me tremendously. I've been fishing at Jefferson Lake a lot lately. Lots of 10 to 15 inch trout. Thanksgiving morning started out like a typical visit. Used the fly rod for the first 5 fish then switched to my ultralight. The brown rooster tail, 1/4 oz. was working around the entire lake. Decided to finish up with a slightly heavier spoon. First cast went out further and my retreive was slower. HUGE STRIKE! I felt the head shake a couple of times and knew this wasn't a 15 incher. 30 minutes later I landed the largest trout I have ever caught. 28 1/2 inches, I estimated 12 lbs.

Troutgod, just pulling your chain about the phobia of coming into the annals of the 2nd most dangerous city in the USA to catch some trout. I know where you are coming from...my mom thinks I'm going to die any day because I live east of Kingshighway, she grew up in Richmond Heights. Going on my 5th year of living here and my 7th year of working here across from the lake and have had zero issues (knock on wood). Cheers :)
