jjtroutbum
Not defending said guide, I actually have no Idea to who the offender maybe. But I have been fishing outlet alone early AM while water was up and had a guide and his young sport. Walk around to the other side and set up directly across from me and well its the outlet the fish are crowed and so are the chuckandduckers thats the way those situations are. If one doesn't like or feel that the odds weren't worth the crowd they wouldn't fish there. I don't believe that the original post was referring to the outlet exactly but the slim/shallow water right before Rebar and after what is generally considered outlet two. In these situtations I am even more considerate as I hope others are to me. When approaching the water to try avoid crowding or being crowded. But lets be realistic about up buy the dam, there is rarely a place that one could consider his own or by himself. At least not with out wading away to the far bank from the parking lot. I do feel that a guide should also teach manners to there sports/newby clients. Since they are the ones that are ambassadors to the sport in many ways. just another opinion Jon Joy ___________ "A jerk at one end of the line is enough." unknown author The Second Amendment was written for hunting tyrants not ducks. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 30, 2007 Root Admin Share Posted November 30, 2007 We've all have had bad experiences on the lake. And I'm sure I've walked too close to someone... Vince and I were boating one night, fishing a tournament on Table Rock. We were probably going too fast and in cutting past a point, didn't see a boat fishing the point and ran between them and the point- way too close. We didn't stop- the boat started up and followed us till we stopped. They swerved at us, almost hitting us. I guess that was his way of getting back. I bet they still talk about the idiots who cut them off and ruined their fishing. I know it's not the same... guides especially are crazy, stupid and self defeating to pull stunts like this one. People talk. Word gets around. Will it hurt his business? Yes in the long run. And it hurts the fishery too- and the sport. But it won't stop. People are always going to be stupid. Some change- hopefully he'll get the message and will.
taxidermist
Its not just TaneyComo, its the lakes and White River too. I get so tired of the guides who chum with corn, then decide to get in my way on the o ther bank when I am doing drifts in the boat. I will comment on Davy Wooten, he is the most courtious guide I have seen, he has never been close to another boat or even bank fisherman that I have seen. True gentleman in the guide service. My son and I hit taney Tuesday Am and had the same propblems with boats coming in on top of us, its was just because we were catching fish. When someone else is catching fish and you are not, it doe nots mean there are no fish where you are at, it means you need to change your tactics, i.e. lure, depth or something you are doing ain't right. Yea, when guides get to close I tend to say something that should embarass them. if that dont work, you can always make a lot of noise and cast across their lines. I normally keep a rod with a nice large crank bait just for that!!!
flyfishmaster
A guide and clients got too close to my friend in Colorado one time so he asked the guide for two of his cards. One card he put in his pocket and called the shop he worked out of and the shop's endorsement companies (I believe it was Simms and Orvis) . The other card he spit on and threw it back at the guide. The guide and client proceeded to leave that area of the stream. I just sat back and ate my sandwich, laughing. I agree with Thom. Hold your ground and if possible close the gap to make the person next to you feel uneasy. We all deal with stupid people in different ways. FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!! The Caddis
One card he put in his pocket and called the shop he worked out of and the shop's endorsement companies (I believe it was Simms and Orvis) That's hitting him where it counts. I would have been tempted to wade to the middle of the hole and try to catch fish with my net. Or maybe start yelling that he was shuffling so his clients could catch fish. Shuffler, Shuffler, SHUFFLER!!!
Members john19
Are you all talking about Mr Shuffle Ma-tic, He cut me and a buddy off like that one day, and I had enough I told how little he was if he could not find any other place to fish. He basically said that he had paying customers and we should give way. Not sure what kind of guide service has to walk in between to clients to get them to catch fish. oh well enough on that I think that its just like any other sport you are going to have bad ones and good ones and hopefully the good ones will out number the bad ones. And I agree that Davy Is very respectful when it comes to other fisherman on the river.
Members Flextime
Are you guys talking about the guide whose company truck is usually in the parking lot (not van)? If so, is there more than one guide working for that particular service? If everyone is talking about the same person and the offenses are frequent, perhaps names should be mentioned. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 30, 2007 Root Admin Share Posted November 30, 2007 I'd rather names not be mentioned simply because this is, for the most part, an anonymous forum with people using screen names making accusations.... there's a fine line I would rather not cross, if we haven't already done so. I have said in the past that our tailwater is so small and there's so many people who fish there that if you do stupid stuff, it will come back to bite you. That includes you and me and everyone else. How long do we dwell on it... not long. We shouldn't. But I think it would be good if I was doing something stupid, I would want someone to point it out to me, especially if I didn't know- 1. It was stupid and I'm ignorant and 2. If everyone was watching and talking about it. Make sense?
Danoinark
I guess my answer to the guy he planted right in from of me tippet would have been to stand my ground, and if his fly line crossed mine or tangled me up, this 3 inch blade case knife would have fixed the problem very quickly. I am geezer enough with a touch of curmudgery to do just that... Dano Hehehehehe, and you know how I like to hog a hole.. ...Dano Make sense? ....and doubly so if it could cost me retail or guide business even if its by word of mouth.... patfish
Unfortunately, its not "guide etiquette". Its just plain rude, no matter what the situation. Sadly, its the "I'm the only person in the universe" mentality.... fairly common these days. I see the infected daily. <just my take>
