Trav Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 In Panama, the outfit I worked for had Boston Whalers that resembled what you are describing. They work very well in the sense that they are very diverse in thier capabilities. The downside to them is that they tend to be very rough when in open water at high speeds while there is bad weather. Especially in wind that creates swells. Hard to control but still durable. Also, while in Mexico in '06, the outfit there had the same boats and the wind made them very uncomfortable to fish out of. Not to mention a very tender tush when we were crossing open water. Although, On Taney they would be perfect. A bit pricey and the platform option might be an overkill for fishing Taney's current and boating conjestion, you want to be closer to your navigation controls most the time. I personally like Lunds. Only because you can take them anywhere and in any conditions. I might add, since your putting a few dollars into your rigs, I might advise that even the most simplest sonar equipment will give your rental boats a bit of an edge. I know that down here on the Lower Taney, without a depth graph your in for a long day. If I am correct, I dont think that there is very many rental outfits that provide a boat with a graph. Just my 2.5 cents. My rig is a poor mans 16 foot seaking with a '61 evinrude. Home-made casting deck and all. wink "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 2, 2008 Author Root Admin Posted February 2, 2008 No Table Rock, sorry.
Amish Bill Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 I would rent the boat although I think putting electronics on it would cause you more headaches than it's worth. Most people renting a boat probably wouldn't know much about them. "Life's too short to fish with a dead minner..."
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 2, 2008 Author Root Admin Posted February 2, 2008 What do you mean by "electronics".
Danoinark Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 I think he was referring to Trav's suggestion to put Sonar on the boat... Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Amish Bill Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Yeah what Danoinark said, but since writing that my wife pointed out the fact that a lot of people come to Taney and leave there boats at home, so I take back what I said before.....sorry "Life's too short to fish with a dead minner..."

Members King Fish Posted February 3, 2008 Members Posted February 3, 2008 Fish finders server little purpose on the upper lake. I'd rent it.. but it would need a trolling motor up front for sure... PK
jscheetz Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I might rent it just to make me feel like I was targeting bones on the flats ) But actually, while I am sure a few guys would be able to get the hang of it - standing on that poling platform is not as easy as it looks. Have done it while there was a bit of chop on the flats and it takes awhile to get the balance. You can see an awful lot from up there - but just don't know how your usual rental clientel would be able to deal with balancing up there and manuvering the boat in the current etc - However, if you get it and have a spare few days and feel like road tripping to Key West - just pm me JS "We are living in the midst of a Creation that is mostly mysterious - that even when visible, is never fully imaginable". -Wendell Berry-
