Got to the park at 9 am this morning and met some friends from KC. Boated to just below the first riffle below the dam, 3 units had been running earlier but it was dropping out. We got to make 3 drifts down to the top of the park. They had caught a few browns and several rainbows on chrome white jigs. I threw a black/olive 3/32 oz jig and caught a few rainbows. Tied on a red San Juan on the fly rod and caught one rainbow on the shallow side. Then put on a bead (egg) and fished AK style- caught 2 more rainbows. Went back to the ramp and ditched the boats.

Waded the rest of the day. Waded across the river and walked up to the top of the rip-rap and started trying to fish the deep side... no luck. But I like fishing skinny water so I dropped back and worked the water only 2-3 feet deep along that bank. First a red San Juan- #2 fish was the rainbow in the pic. 21 inch but the tail was worn off this female.

The would be the fish of the day. Caught quite a few more rainbows, 12-14 inch, on the San Juan, changing to a #16 red and then black zebra and back to a brown SJ. No hatches but we quite at 5 pm. I noticed trout midging in the river near Newlands towards dark.

They ran one unit all day. They called it "minimum flow". Not sure if they've implimented the new flow or not but I REALLY liked it alot!

Nice fish Phil. I had no luck Ak style yesterday. We did not catch any over 20" today, but did catch quite a few. We ended up going to grey and white clousers just before each of the riffles and stripping them in with a 250 grain sinking tip. This worked all the way down to the White Hole.

You might have to wait a while for that report, but there should be some real good photos of it.

We had a great trip Thursday and Friday caught quite a few fish but I have no pics yet. When I get them I will post them, but I'm sure everyone will have seen them by that time.

Phil it was good to see you and glad you had a good day off fishing If that is the min. flow I love it I will be glad when I get my motor fixed. that was some hard rowing yesterday.

So, if that WAS minimum flow, how was it compared to wading water at 0 units?

Looks like a good trip. I agree with Dano... That Brown pic with the SJW in its mouth is priceless!

Micheal can answer that better than I. I don't get to the White that often... not often enough! But I liked it.

I bet the pool we fished has no current but it deep at 0 units. It has great current- even the shallow side. The shoot below on the right side heading down held alot of fish too- others in the KC part did well there. Still could wade thru it though so it didn't keep you from anything that's there even during the increased minimum flow.

Hi Phil

Good report. Wish I was there. I'm headed down there Friday, weather permitting. Who said it was minimum flow? The dam line?

Terry I'm sure you meant to type "rainbow" with SJW in it's mouth.

In my opinion I think that it made the fishing better especially for the way I like to fish striping streamers. Up by the dam where I will usually put a nymph or a midge on under an indicator, I was able to cast my 150gr sink tip with streamers and do quite well. I think that the water was very wadable plus I think that it made the channels more pronounced. I also think that it keeps the fish more active because we were picking fish up yesterday in areas that I would usually just pick up and row through.

The water is swift but not so swift that you can not wade if you have trouble wading in swift water then make sure sure you have a wading staff and a pair of spiked boots.
