trout fanatic Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I have been looking for a reel for gulf coast beaches where sand is a real issue. The Konic is still on my radar screen. Very interested in what everyone else thinks about this reel. Anyone else have one?
trout fanatic Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Nevermind. Just discovered that the Konic comes in small sizes only. Not big enough for my intended purposes. The velocity and litespeed are still under consideration though-only more expensive (naturally).
Paola Cat Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I've got a Litespeed LS-2. I've never had any problems with it. For sure, the drag is super smooth. I am intrigued by the Konic and would like to try one out ... maybe convince the wife that I just gotta have one. PC Cheers. PC

I was looking on their website last night and it shows that the larger sizes will be available March '08. Â Â
trout fanatic Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I didn't know that FS. Thanks for that bit of info I may wait just a little bit before making a decision
trout fanatic Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Thought I would bring this old thread back to life because I just received my new Konic 3.5 last night. I wanted the sealed drag for winter steelheading and this reel seems to fill the bill nicely. A little to early to give any performance reviews as it doesn't have a fly line on it yet but it certainly is a substantial reel. Drag is tree stump pullin solid. A little on the plain jane side but that is of little concern to me. Will keep you informed on its progress. If this thing is anywhere near what it appears to be, I may have a stable of them. Just a footnote for those who are interested in such things, there are no markings on the reel or box to indicate country of manufacture so I suspect it is of offshore breeding.
strangercreek Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I've only heard good things about them. Just like a higher end Lamson but it is cast instead of machined (who cares). I like the pop off/pop on spool as well.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I have 3 Litespeeds and they are awesome. If the Konics are anywhere near the quality of the Litespeeds they will have a sure-fire winner. Let us know how it performs. SIO3
zsmith62 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I just bought one from BCO along with a sage fli in the 9' 5 weight size. I took it to crane on sunday for it's trial run, and it performed flawlessly. Now i just have to figure out how to adust the retrieve direction, with me being a lefty, I don't like having to switch hands when playing fish. The directions on how to do this were a little vague, but other than that, I didn't have any problems. Zach Smith
vanven Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I have debated on these reels for a while. I just wish they came in a larger arbor, i would probably own several. -Jerod
