Indian Point Area - 7/27/18

Got out at 7 am and fished until 10:30 am. WT 85 deg.  Haven't been out for a few days - confined to the house with cold/allergy grud.  Tried my favorite long gravel runouts and found fish at 28 fow on the bottom.  Caught a few and wasn't bothered by the blue gill today but decided to try to find new places to fish.  Looked at the map and went from bluff ends to short and long gravel points that were close to the deep drops.  Found fish at nearly every spot, caught one or two and went on to another new spot.  Didn't see lots of fish on the locator in any one spot but sometimes they would sudden appear when one of their buddies got hooked.  Most locations did show bait fish and a couple times the graph went dark with the bait fish.  Sometimes the fish were on the bottom and sometimes suspended over depth usually close to the drop off.  Fish were still biting when I left, maybe because it was overcast, maybe because mid day was the prime solar lunar period or both.  Very pleasant morning to be out.  Caught mostly 14 - 16 Spots, a couple SM, one really nice SM.

i was out in your area last night.  we fish from 8:30 to 1:15.  had to really work for them but ended up with 17 keepers.  depth was right along with what you were finding, close to 30 ft..  all brownies, and we had some real bruisers.  boat traffic was crazy last night too.  saw three different boat running around without any lights on.  and two jet skis out running around.  is it just the full moon or what?

i am surprised that you did not come up with more brownies.  they are definitely eating shad.  the carpet in my boat is a disaster.

everyone keep on your toes while boating.

The boat traffic/skiers wasn't too bad this morning, probably because the overcast made it feel kinda cool.

I understand what you mean about just a few SM for me today.  There is an area my neighbor's call Smallmouth Point (you probably know the place) and rightfully so but all I'm getting there this year is Spots.

Last year I bought the black light you recommended and fished at night allot.  The light really works well to see the shore and the line movement. Only went out at night once so far this year as I usually am ready for bed about 9 p.m.  The one time I was out recently I almost ran into a wake boat with no lights. Was thinking about getting one of those remote controlled search light to mount on the front of the boat.
