Guest Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Well piss! You made me type and draw all that crap for nuthin? I'm going to finish the project after I actually do some fishing. Like you said, its a tough job to complete correctly. Plus I need to accumulate plumbing parts & fittings
Guest Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I found this diagram helpful, yet confusing. Lolprod-livewell_control_systems.pdf
fishinwrench Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Unless the bottom of the LW is lower than the surface of the water, what do you need a pump-out for ? Just open the drain and let gravity do its thing.
Guest Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 The pump out is out of the question. Can I mount the pump to valve like it's shown here? That would solve a couple of problems
fishinwrench Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Sure, but that type of installation holds water (enough to freeze and bust pumps and valves). So keep some RV antifreeze around to splash the livewells with when it gets cold. grizwilson 1
Flysmallie Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Unless the bottom of the LW is lower than the surface of the water, what do you need a pump-out for ? Just open the drain and let gravity do its thing. That pump out thing would have been nice when I was parked at the marina at the end of the day chasing that last fish around the livewell to put in my weigh in bag. I just started leaving it open at the end of the day and letting it drain on the run back to the marina. I hated chasing that last fish around the livewell.
fishinwrench Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Why pump it out when opening the drain valve does the same thing ? You're just adding more hoses and electrical circuits to eventually fail and cause you problems. Water seeks its own level and the bottoms of livewells are still higher than the surface of the lake, or no more than a couple inches below.
Flysmallie Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Why pump it out when opening the drain valve does the same thing ? It never drained sitting in the water. It was always open. Was like that on two champions and one ranger.
Guest Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Lifting those batteries was a bad idea. My herniated disc flared up today. Now I can't put my shoes on or walk.
jdmidwest Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I bought an old ranger and a nice trailer a few months back. The old boat had a rotted transom and severe sunburn, so I junked it. When I stripped all of the stuff out of the boat, I noticed what a mess the livewells were. My Tracker is so much simpler. Intake pipe to the aerator, pipe to the spray head. Nice little flex hose to keep water level. Pop it out to drain. Livewell stays full on plane. Both boats were 1986, my Tracker is in better shape because of the aluminum hull. The trailer I got with the boat was worth alot more than the whole deal, it was a nice Ramlin C channel steel trailer with fiberglass fenders. Just put the finishing touches on it tonight.
