Howdy... new guy here. My son and I would like to make a trip up to the White / Norfork area in October. Is there a river map available that I can order online? We wade fish exclusively and need advise about walk-in access and where to go. We would also like information about generation schedules and what dangers to look out for... Thanks in advance...

And... any of the same info about the tail water at Beaver would be appreciated, too.

I haven't been down to Beaver for a few years but it has a road that parallels the river and several trails down to the river that I used to use for wading access, just below the dam is where I fished the most simply because it was quick and easy for an after work stop.   Best I recall 6-8 places to access between the dam and the end of that road past the campgrounds. We camped at Parker Bottoms (Ar.136) a few times and was an access there.

This portion of the river is somewhat wadeable only when there is no generation, when the horn blows get out now.  As I recall a good portion of this stretch is deep even when not generating.

There is some kind of access at Spider Creek  (from Ar.135?) but I never fished that far down.

Watch the forecasts and real time generation.  Lately the swpa's 7 hasn't worked on their keyboards, so a 35 = 7, or minimum flow.   Do a rough estimate of 4 mph for the river to rise and 2  mph for it to fall, and choose your place.  For wading, I would fish up by the dam on both rivers, the narrows, roundhouse shoals, red bud shoals,  and rim shoals on the white. On the Norfork I would fish Ackerman access.  Don't forget the North Fork of the White up in Missouri.

Of all of those, in minimum flow right now, I would drive to round house shoals access, and wade across to the other side of the island and fish the skinny water that none of the boats bother with.  You're going to want some ruby midges.

Well, October came and went and we didn't get to come. However, we're now set for about the 3rd week in January. I'm a bit worried that they will be generating the whole time. Any and all advise will be appreciated...

unless we get a ton of rain, they wont be generating the entire time (most likely) you are here.  You can even wade safely on generation in the right places (the fly shops in the area will happily point those out).  Norfork rarely generates 24/7, you will probably have at least 1/2 day of wade water on that tailwater almost daily.... unless we get a really huge flooding rain, you should have wadeable water somewhere and don't fret if the white is generating at a low level, you can still wade fish it safely in lots of areas.
