  1. Check out Ozark Mountain Trading Co. in Garfield, AR. They won't stear you wrong. Good selection of yaks and equipment. Friendly and knowledgeable. I bought my yak there.
  2. A spool of mono only costs about 6-8 dollars depending on size. A spool of braid costs a lot more than that. I figure if I'm gonna use braid, I'd spool up with it and just use a 10-15' leader of mono or flouro when fishing. Most baitcasters and spinning rods only hold 100-150 yds or so of mono and I guess the idea you are getting at is to reduce the amount of mono or flouro you have to spool up with. I just fill my spools with mono and when the line gets short on my spool from cutting off and retying or if the end is getting old, I just strip off about 25 yards and tie on some fresh mono to the end of that using a blood knot.
  3. It's all in your screen name.
  4. The only problem I have been having is marking a topic as read unless I click on my profile or log off and back on first.
  5. I've seen those "thingamabobbers" in the store and I've always wondered how anyone could cast them. Also gotta think about the loud splash they make when they land on the water. I normally use a little round corkie that's no more than 5/16" in diameter.
  6. Wouldn't that be like watching an indicator? The best use of an indicator is to suspend a nymph at a certain depth.
  7. If I'm trout fishing here on the White or Norfork rivers, there is very little in way of hatches except for midges and caddis, so I normally fish below the surface. If I was fishing for smallmouth, most of my fishing is on the surface cuz I love to see them big smallies come up and slam a fly up top.
  8. This one is for the ladies on this forum.
  9. At least as far as we know of. If it gets worse, it could cause problems. They are monitoring for radiation along the Pacific coast.
  10. Sounds to me like you melted a piston. An engine should still run even if it's cold, but the aluminum on the spark plug says something got too hot.
  11. When will they ever learn to leave the floodplains alone?
  12. Try these links for nymphing techniques. Nymph Fishing Techniques Orvis Nymphs Fly Fishing with Nymphs There is a lot more info out there if you search "nymph fly fishing techniques" at Google.
  13. Nymphing is just fishing with a nymph. A nymph is the larval or pupal stage of an aquatic insect.
  14. I couldn't sleep, so I took a drive down to the dam @ Norfork and took a few pics. Here's one you might enjoy. This pic was taken looking down river from just below the dam at about 2:30 in the AM.
  15. Let's say you are fishing a nice salmon run on some northwestern river along the Pacific coast. You land what could be a new world record salmon after fighting the fish for an hour and a half. You are all worn out and the fish is so stressed that it litteraly dies. Then some guy in uniform comes up to you with a mobile lab and demands to take a DNA sample of the fish you just caught. The fish shows signs of having been reared by some genetically altered fish that escaped a fish farm 15 years ago. The guy in the uniform then hands you a ticket for several thousand dollars and confiscates your fishing gear for violating the patent that was granted several years ago, and upheld by the US Supreme Court on a 5-4 vote.
  16. I can think of three reasons why you would think this way. 1) You are standing on the party line for these budget cuts. 2) You hate anything good that has come from Washington. 3) You totaly misunderstood the meaning of what is hapening here.
  17. Just a reminder to all you fly fishers and those who want to learn, the 2011 Sowbug Roundup starts today @ 9 AM and runs through Satuturday. Info can be found here.
  18. Request sent.
  19. Imagine that. You mean to tell me the unemployment rate is so high because we keep buying foreign junk? Whodathunkit?
  20. Won't have to worry about being stuck up a creek without a paddle. But seriously, that is just outright blasphemy.
  21. It's not a book but there is a alot of good info here.
  22. Cuz it's too dark in N.O. or Haiti to see.
  23. I'd just as soon let them have the water for now. If'n ya want to hit the Norfork or the White, and you got a yak or pontoon or something, I'd be more than happy to shuttle with ya to get away from the crowds. But my knees won't allow me to wade far enough from the access to get away from the masses.
  24. My best guess is you would love to have seen oneshots butt?
