  1. While the Buffalo is a very special river, no special baits or special techniques needed. For the most part, what works on other Ozark creeks/ and rivers will work on the Buffalo.
  2. Having spent more time on the White, I'm surprized more people don't find themselves in trouble. I almost got washed away up at the dam. I heard the horn an immediately started for the shoreline and still ALMOST didn't make it. I'm flat out paranoid on the Norfork. I'm really surprized at how little instruction is given to the folks that rent boats for use on the White.
  3. I went really old school on some new water last week. I caught fish on spoons, and mepps inline spinners, and ye old basic grub. Which is more dumb? Smallie or guys that fish for smallies?
  4. Very nice Brian. As far as your tag line, I've never had a trout wink at me, but I think they've flipped me off a few times.
  5. You can do any number of hike/wade trips. You CAN NOT do many hike/wade trips from the BRT. Many times the BRT is hundreds of feet above the water. I hope you're able to get a trip in. I've had a good hike/wade from Ponca to Steele Creek.
  6. via an AGFC email I got today, BSL received 52, 900 "catchable" Rainbow Trout in April. There's gonna be some fat and happy walleye.
  7. why would you keep one? Crappie and bass are easy enough to catch if you want some food. I hear there are walleye in Norfork, but I've yet to prove it myself.
  8. I went this past weekend with my wife. I thought it was very well designed and thought out. The trails are great. The artwork is very good. It is quite a hike from Mtn Home, but I think it is great that we have it as close as it is. Stay out of the gift shop. Pricey. They need a few Koi in the water.
  9. NIce picture Jason. Very easy to see why one of the nicknames is "brownie". I've noticed the sub 8 inch smallies that are BLACK. I wonder if they aren't holding completely in the shadow of a big rock. The smallies in the birght sunshine riffles of the Current river have almost lemon yellow fins and really took on the color of the rocks almost pixelated variation of browns. Great natural camo. The black splotches on that largemouth I believe may somehow be ralted to that fish having been caught and excessively handled. In Fisherman magazine has published photos of bass with very clear hand and finger printes on the them that are coal black. MUCH more common in spring. I see it from time to time, but I am not notincing a dramatic increase in that number so the fish either get over it or they are dying off. Regardless of the color variation, I've almost never caught an ugly smallie.
  10. I thought the brook trout were stocked in the White River for brown trout food. Mike's right, but what I've heard was in the pre 9/11 days people would catch LARGE Rainbows near the dam at night fishing vertically from pontoon boats etc. That area likely still holds lots of large bows, but that area is off limits to boats nowadays. We'd have to look at the stocking data, but I think AGFC is STILL stocking rainbows in the spring each year. Hey man if they're gonna dump em in Amon's Lake, they might as well throw a few in BSL.
  11. I tend to like to fish Rainbow trout colored lures EVERYWHERE. They do still stock around 30,000 rainbows a year into Bull Shoals itself. I caught one way back up a creek in Oakland so I'm sure the larger bass and larger walleye do eat more than a few. I don't know that you need to buy any just for the trip, but there is some fisherman's logic behid the idea.
  12. Outstanding photo Larry!
  13. Mike Worley gives great fishing reports and guides on BSL. Read his stuff. I catch my walleye while bass fishing. Happy to have em. I know very little about bottom bouncers or trolling for walleye.
  14. I found a 4 plus foot chunk of rail in the middle of a small road in Virginia. I dodged it and then got out to throw it in the back of the truck to use later and get it out of the road. I had NO idea it was going to be that heavy. I got it in the truck, but it was no easy snatch and lift.
  15. The trout bite every day and the standards are the standards for a reason. Come on down and catch a ton. Have a great trip.
  16. Hard to make our work schedules click, but maybe soon. I'll call.
  17. One legal Bull Shoal's walleye does.
  18. Dang Tim, you beat me to it. I got a big order from Tim's Fly Shop years ago. Still using them. Good Stuff. I had a bunch of fun with them at Roaring River with my kids. Good Times.
  19. A little more detail in your advertisment would have been appropriate. The questions didn't seem unresonable to me.
  20. I'd stay away from the Pelican one's like the plague.
  21. With great freedom comes great responsibility. IF people don't act right, we all lose a little freedom to manage the problem. I hope they get a handle on the problems and let the qualified folks do their job.
  22. Wow, sorry to hear about the conflict. I hate to hear FT57 is going thru some hard times even IF they are largely of his own making.
  23. NIghttime seems to be a little more of a reliable bite for walleye, and you're likely to pick up a few smallies as well. Brushpiles and docks = crappie. Soft plastics on 1/32 oz jigheads. I would throw topwater early and late for smallies and grubs or tubes during the day. Good Luck BUT return ALL the smallies to the water immediately.
  24. Living to fish another day is always a good plan.
