  1. not sure what they were but we caugth several of the midges hatching and they were brown. We hat nothing that look they same, only had some black midge. There was also a few small tan colored mayfly hatching. We caught about a dozen each but there were alot of fish feeding on the brown hatch going on between the rain showers.
  2. I have gotten my wife to go trout fishing a few time with me this last year. She wouldn't try fly fishing but is learning how to throw an ultralight pretty well. I got her waders, net and her own light tackle and she now tells her friends that she did not know that wearing waders, thigh deep in a river fishing for trout was on her bucket list. Now she has even been the one to ask me about going fishing. I have hope of being able to get her to atleast try a fly rod. Fishing, another thing we have found we like doing together.
  3. Noticed the other day that ColdwaterFshr posted on Norfork Tailwater section that a fried lost a Albright A-4 at chunk rock shore at McClellan's. You might check with him.
  4. Three of us floated there Tuesday. We had the guy who owns the campground at Cowskin take us up river and put in on private land. It was a 8.6 mile float by our GPS. He charges $30.00 to take your truck back to his camp ground, that was cheaper then driving two trucks. We each caught between 35-45 fish each, mostly smallmouth. two where 13 inches and most of the rest were between 8-10 inches, but we also had a couple of 4 incher's that hit on a # 6 autumn wooley booger an 2 inch minnow. no one was on the river until we got to the camp and there were about 35-40 kids and about 500 empty beer cans around them. Who knew that Tuesday was party day for kids in Missouri. the water was nice but we did drag in several places, no more the 50-60 feet a couple of times. This was our first time on the river and we had a great time and will return. There were several gravel bars along the way that would make for good camping but I think all the land is private.
  5. We wade the upper part last Thursday, off a dirt road just before Harmon Bridge. We about 4 miles up the road to a low water bridge and waded down about 2 miles. We found several nice holes and caught a lot in the 8-12 range along with goggle eye and sun fish. Fishing was the best where the water was moving fast and dropping into a deeper pool. Fished with both spinning and fly gear. Caught most everything on craw patterns except one gut was using a pink and black 1/16th ounce jig and he caught the most.
  6. We were there at the same time but fished a little down stream. Baker's Ford to Tyler's Bend and then to Gilbert. We to thought about trying Richland but opted for Crooked Creek. We found the fish about the same and you, mostly smaller stuff but each of us caught at least one in the 15-16 inch range. Tuesday was our best day and wish the clouds would have stayed around. Had to hunt for some shade to be able to find any fish. The water was really clear and the fish were spooky. But we had a great time and looking forward to when we can do this again.
  7. We just came back from the middle buffalo, and it is about 4 hours from Tulsa. We camped at Tyler's Bend and floated from Baker's Ford to Tyler's Bend one day and another day from Tyler's Bend to Gilbert and day three we wade fish Crooked Creek. Both are short floats and only had a couple of places where we drug bottom but nothing bad. Yes the water is low but we caught plenty of fish, using both spinning and fly gear. Nothing to really brag about but every one caught at least one 16 incher and lots of samller ones along with goggle eye, sun fish and perch. The camp is nice and you don't have to driver too far to put in or take out. Weekend is a busy time and camp ground can fill up.
  8. We are taking our annual trip in two weeks and plan on staying at Tyler's Bend. We plan on floating a couple of days and doing a little wade fishing on crooked creek and maybe richland creek. Anyone been on this part of the river lately, how is the water and the fishing. Been checking the water level and the lack of rain seem to have it a little low. We will take both spinning and fly fishing gear so any ideas would help.
  9. anyone ever fished Richland Creek, in Arkansas. We are camping out on the Buffalo, at Tyler's Bend, and will float a day or two but also like to do a little wade fishing. We have done the middle parts of Crooked Creek and I have read some on Richland Creek and was wondering if it was possible to wade the lower section. Either access from a road or is it possible to cross at Woolum and then wade up stream. We will be there the second week of May.
  10. I am camping at Tyler's Bend the second week of May and we have wade fish parts of Crooked Creek in the past but I have been reading some about Richland Creek. They say it is not real floatable but is a good smallmouth stream, wade fishing. Can anyone give me some tips on access points and what to expect. Can you wade accross at Woolum and then just go up stream from there. I have read there are several good long pool and that there are lots of boulder to fish around. Not sure if this is what we will do but looking for ideas of places we have never been to that would be close by.
  11. I live in Oklahoma and my local walmart has them is several different sizes.
  12. Also does anyone know if they are stocking any fish. It looks like there are regular releases each day even with the lake being very low. Is the water still brown. I have not been there since August and the water was flowing but warm and you could not see more than two inches. Will be really glad when things get back to normal.
  13. Go to USGS.gov and click on oklahoma and then look for real time stream data. It will display the state of Ok and put your cursor on the dot until you find Lower Ill. at Gore. Double click on that dot and when the next page come up at the top of the page click on the dot that says charts. This will bring up a page showing the stream flow, height and temp every thirty minutes for the last week, or more if you want. The guage is about 1 1/2 miles downstream from the dam and you can figur out how long it take for the water to go down. You can check the generation by going to Tenkiller generation and this will give you the generation times. You can can check this each day at 5 pm. Hope this helps.
  14. I was there last Sunday and the fishing was slow but we had a great time, since it had been so long since there was fishable water. We fished just below the island and down stream a couple hundred yards. The river has changed in the last couple of months. There was only about two inches of visibilty that day because the water was really brown. Has it cleared up any.
  15. had a really good trip, the weather was a little warm and the rain held off until Thursday. We caught some really nice fish, lots of 12-14 inch fish, every one caught at least one 16 inch fish and we had two make 18 inches. Our best lure was a small green pumpkin seed on a black jighead, fished really slow on the bottom. The bite was soft, with most fish just picking it up and moving away slowly. All of the big fish we caught was in slack water or backwaters. We floated from North Maumee to Buffalo Point and fished any hole that had slow water. We also wade fished on Crooked Creek around Harmon, one low water crossing to another. We found a few fish making beds and they would not bite a thing, not sure if this is the first spawn or what with the high water. Can't show you any pictures because no one brought a camera and since our phones did not work no one carried that either. The heavy rain Thursday night brought the river up 6 feet over night, and lots of mud. This was our 7 annual trip and our best fishing year to date.
  16. We are still going next week. It looks like the water is going down and the forecast is mostly sunny and dry. Does anyone have an idea what the fishing might be like after all the high water. I think the river, gravel bars, and amount of trees in the river will be different. Will the high water have pushed out alot of the food the smallmouth eat making them hunt for food more. Can anyone give me any ideas?
  17. We plan of doing our annual Buffalo Trip the week of May 9-13. WE are staying at Buffalo Point and plan on floating and fishing from Spring Creek to Buffalo Point one day and the next down to Rush Landing. Can anyone tell me what to expect about the river there, we have never floated this section. We have camped there but fished CC each day last year. Since it is well down stream from where we have fished before I am expecting more wide open slow water. I know we don't want to miss rush because the next take-out is on the white I understand. WE are mostly camping and enjoying the days away from work but we will be fishing each day, any information on a certain area to not miss whould help a lot.

    Annual Trip

You might check a Buffalo Point, they have several rustic cabins. You can also float from there, one upstream and one from there down stream. Buffalo Point is south of Yellville about 15 miles. We have camped there a few times and it is a nice park. It is also close to Crooked Creek, another nice smallmouth stream.
  19. Thanks for the information Hopper. Wanted to make sure I stayed legal, I was not able to located it on a map. I was in the area the other day. Is it where there is some type of block tower. So from there to the gravel pit is catch and release only, right. My try walking down from the upper parking lot to the Watts parking lot. It look like some good water and would seem that not alot of people went too far from the parking lot on Wed. so there may not be as much pressure.
  20. I went to the lower Illinois for the frst time Wednesday and caught 4 rainbows. My first with a fly rod. I used some 1/80 oz white and olive jigs and then used a couple colors and sizes of wooly buger. Too much wind for a new guy at fly fishing. But still really injoyed the day. I read that it is catch and release only from the guage to the gravel pit. I can see the gravel pit but where is the guage located at. I fished up close to the dam and also down stream from the parking lot on rosd 990. I looks like a guy could wade from the dam to the parking lot on that road, is it possible. Can someone give me some help?
  21. I will be in Ponca Feb 20-22 and am looking for an area to walk in and fish. I have never fish this part of the Buffalo, have only fish the mid to lower parts. What would the water and fishing be like now. I know the snow melt will put a lot of cold water into the river but will a big warm up and sunshine I was hoping to get some fishing in. Can anyone help with where to fish and any tips?
  22. Is Turkey the same as the access point at Snow, off of County road 4006. If it is, is there a point between there and Kellys Slab to put in. Don't want to float 10-11 miles in a day a still fish the creek slowly.
  23. We were able to fish Kings river Saturday above Hwy 62 bridge. The water was very shallow even though we walked up stream for more then a mile. We found just a few holes that were more then knee deep that were holding some fish. They were very skiddest and we were only able to catch a few. Caught one on my flyrod that came out from under some brush and attacked the fly, it happened to be a sucker. Fished about three hours with very few bites. Ended up driving to Crooked Creek and fished the rest of the day and managed to catch several more smallmouth each, but nothing of any size. We did see lots of snakes and had one swim so close to my son that it touched his leg. So you better wait until we get some rain before you give it a try.
  24. Thanks for the help. I thinks we will go from the Hwy 62 bridge. With being able to park there and the other creek coming into the Kings there we think there would be our best option. Will report back how we did.
  25. Thanks for that information. Would a person be able to wade fish up or down stream from either of these bridges, if the water level was normal. Would like to be able to wade up or down maybe a mile and fish any deeper pools or rapids we could find. I know a couple of places on Crooked Creek but we have been wanting to try Kings River since we drive past it alot.
