I recently became a boat owner, about what time of year do the ramps get a little less busy and the amount of ski boats, pontoons, and jet ski's calm down. All the traffic makes me nervous since I have so little lake boating experience. Any less popular places to put in around Big M/ Eagle rock? Eagle rock was basically solid ski boats and pontoons this weekend. If I am strictly interested in fishing would I be better off putting in around Cape Fair? Thank you.

I'd be real interested in seeing that decoy set up. I only hunt shallow water so all my decoys are texas-rigged. One of the best gear decisions I've ever made for waterfowl hunting. Edited to add: I saw the other thread after I typed this. It sounds like your using a variation of a long line set up with a very innovative way to set up the long lines. Interesting indeed. I would have to see it in person to really understand how it all works, I'm kind of a slow learner like that from time to time.

Had a buddy put 18 pellets clean through one of my decoys opening day of the middle zone. That poor decoy had entry wounds and exit wounds. It was one of those Drake double duty decoys I bought a few years ago. They are thin as a milk jug but super light for those long walk in hunts.

What coatings for the bottom of fiberglass canoes have you had good luck with? I'm not coating a canoe, I want to use the coatings on the bottom of some fiberglass coffin blinds for waterfowl hunting. I use them to drag my decoys into an area and then lay down in the blind. I'm looking for something that is low friction and abrasion resistant. Thanks.

My wife has started using waterfowl in some Asian style recipes. I've really like them.

How much are they charging to go to Jolly Mill? I haven't been since they started charging people.

Is your blind sitting at about the normal water line? Because that is about how low the spot I normally hunt is, it's weird to be sitting in a layout in the spot you usually put your decoys. My hide from past years is 40yds or more from the water this year.
-
I think a layout blind would have been easier on your back. Hope the hard work pays off.
-
Not as many ducks flying over my spot this morning, I blew several good chances then I managed to jam the gun by putting a shell in backwards. That was a bear to get back out. Ended up going home empty handed.

Finally started to see a good number of mallards this morning, hopeful I'll get a quick limit in the morning, I almost froze out this morning.

I'd like to be going but have to watch the boys all weekend. The way things look I won't be missing much, but you never know. I'd rather go and not shoot a thing then sit at home and day dream about it.

The Canvasback Has Landed In Sw Missouri

Nice looking mount -
I've been out a couple of times, mallards seem pretty thin in this part of the world right now. I have saw some Canada geese but I've been having issues getting to shoot at them. Last day I hunted I was packing all the stuff in the truck when the geese flew right over the pond I had been hunting on.

I had to be the best man in a wedding saturday. The groom and I slipped out that morning and shot 2 teal each and made it back before anyone else woke up to start setting up.

I was down there today, walking around with my boys, didn't see alot of fish. The fish we did see where very skittish acting.

Only year I've seen any canvasbacks was the year the season on them was closed. Saw two bunches that year, one up by the powerplant in Jasper county and the other down by my family land. I would mount that sucker in a heartbeat. Good story to go with it.
-
I don't think I could hold off on the teal shooting. Love them little things.
-
That's exactly what it is. Called a hook keeper.
-
Probably out of the same flock of resident geese I used to see all the time on the way to work when I worked a different shift.

You have more birds on that tail gate than I've seen in Newton county all year, but I leave for work before dawn and get back after dark. I've done all my hunting on family land this year over in Barry County, haven't been setting any harvest records for sure. Introducing my oldest son to waterfowl hunting this year so all my shots have to be at ducks setting in the decoys. I don't think he is good enough with a shotgun yet to shoot them in flight.

Hello all, I'm new to this forum. I just received my first fly rod for fathers day and am hoping to get started fly fishing. Went to Big Sugar creek tonight to try it out. My casting is horrible but I managed to scratch out 7 sunfish. That's two more than my 5 year old son caught on his ultralight spincaster. We both had a blast. I would also like to thank Tim for helping my wife pick out my new fly rod.
