  1. Very lucky it wasn't a multiple drowning. Somewhere there is a video of a rescue attempt gone horribly wrong, two rescue boats lost during a rescue attempt, all on film. Lowhead dams are not called drowning machines for nothing. Thoughts and prayers certainly go out to the family and EMS personnel who works situations such as this.
  2. Oneshot, yes that is lake water from Truman, for some reason I am thinking that at about 712, it gets into the Sapps Landing Parking Lot.
  3. Outflow increased to 2800 CFS today, lake is starting down.
  4. I am glad it wasnt, it's about 7 miles below the dam, if it was up and out of its banks, that would be bad. Although if we get a really heavy rain in a short period there is a small creek that enters between the two bridges that can back the river up.
  5. Get some explosive strikes I bet.
  6. I am surprised as big as Lindley was running earlier in the week. Would have expected from Nemo Bridge up to be full of debris.
  7. Normally yes, however since the courtesy dock is unusable the fee has been temporarily suspended.
  8. Bolivar area will be muddy and likely have plenty of debris. Ramp is unlikely to be useable, but is a crap shoot on the debris. If I was going to launch it would be at least as far down as Lightfoot or wheatland.
  9. MSHP report says one vehicle accident around 3 a.m. ran off road and overturned. I am glad I get to have my 14 month old grandson over tonight, rocking him to sleep right now sometimes things make you feel very "mortal".
  10. http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/Locations/WaterManagement.aspx. if I was smarter than my phone there should be a link to the Kansas City district water management, select 3 day reservoir forecast.
  11. Wow, I am very saddened to hear that. My prayers definitely go our to his family.
  12. If I am not mistaken, Melvern in particular has a very good smallmouth bass fishery. On the stocking side it is a lot easier to stock a small state lake of a hundred or so acres, where you can even charge a fee to fiish it, as opposed to stocking even a small lake like Pomme at almost 8,000 acres, same with feeders.
  13. Good, I am glad to hear the food base is there. You mention about Pomme being managed differently, to what specifically are you referring, the LM length limit of 13"? Each lake normally does have a "trophy" species included, i.e. Pomme has Muskie, Truman has Hybrids, Stockton - Walleye, some lakes have more than one simply due to chance. Such as Truman, it has hybrids, big catfish, spoonbill, walleye etc.. Honestly I am surprised that MDC hasn't gone the route of adding an upper predator to TR, such as hybrids.

  15. I am going to ask a question again, primarily for the guys that fish the Rock a lot. I kow on Truman, and Pomme especially in the fall the schools of young of the year shad are phenomenal, unbelievable large school after school of them. Is it that way on TR as well. Definitely no lake ever suffered from having some brood/raising cover added to the lake in the form of sunken cedars or whatever, if I had a dock on any lake, everyone would be afraid to swim around it due to the cover I would have place there. Also every lake, especially large ones will easily sustain an amount of harvest without any problems what so ever, unfortunately its not like the crab fishing shows where a quota is set and once you reach it all harvest stops. I do believe that the MDC tries very hard to not have any more of a variety of regs that differ from lake to lake than they really have to, it would be tough for normal fisherman to have to memorize and follow the differert rules and also make enforcement tough.
  16. That forceast is outdated, but I doubt we will make 854.0. Our rainfall totals in the last 24 hours were minimal but what fell to the North East or Springfield is still rolling in. Pomme River is rising and Lindly creek is rising to a lesser degree. Yes there will be a lot of cover for newly hatched everything. 3-4 years from now out to be some good fishing. Gumboot depending on where your dock is the highwaters can be either an annoyance, or if it gets pounded by drift, catastrophic.
  17. Maybe we should start a thread about crappie on Table Rock! Oh wait, never mind.
  18. Heck yeah Seth, good day fishing looks like.
  19. Worst thing about that is that it would quickly become a rather stinky nasty mess in the warm humid weather.
  20. As of today 18 June, Current elevation is right at 850.5. (pretty close to 25% of flood storage capacity) Current outflow is 2000 CFS Impacts: As of now the only courtesy dock that is useable (without wading) as the one at the Hermitage side of the State Park. All the rest are in the water to some degree or another. In addition the fishing docks at Bolivar Landing, and by the Project Office are inaccessible. Both Swimbeaches (Nemo & Wheatland) are underwater. But luckily only a few campsites have been impacted, 2 electric sites and a couple of non-electric sites. The rapid rise has finally leveled out as the main tribs finally dropped back on flow. We should hold pretty close to the 850.5 and then beging to drop. NOTE: all the above is based on no additional rainfall, and holding current outflow of 2000CFS. However Tropical Storm Bill may have other plans. If we get heavy rains in the watershed obviously it will rais the lake even more, if it falls far enough north we might end up reducing outflow, if it doesn't we might get to increase outflow. Only time will tell.
  21. There was yesterday, today I don't know, it was muddy and a fair amount of debris around but actually were two lanes open. Actually had a crew scheduled to go to Bolivar Tuesday to clean off the boat ramp, however the rain and subsequent jump in lake level re-shuffled things for us.
  22. Simply closing a spawning area or changing length limit isn't going to do anything. Something is lacking, How is the shad population on TR. Crappie are shad specialists, bass will happily eat shad and bluegill or if they are in short supply bass will happily eat smaller bass. Crappie don't have mouths big enough to eat little bass, so the small shad are a critical link in their food chain.
  23. I have only had one Shimano spinning reel that was worth buying a second one of. That was a Stradic, that said the price of them now is more than they are worth. The Pfleuger Presidents are probably the best bang for the buck going.
  24. Oh we did. The Pomme River got up to around 10K CFS last night, but the Lindley Creek exploded to about 24K, rains hit right, so we are gonna pop up even with our outflow. We will definitely lose a few campsites but will have to wait and see what the Tropical Storm does to us. Hopefully we don't get another hit like last night or even worse.
  25. I just pluck them off with my fingers then seal them in a piece of tape, hoping they die slowly over a period of weeks. I have always been amazed at the number of folks who simply freak out at a tick on them, maybe I am just jaded about it.
