  1. That was fairly tactful FW I am impressed. I am probably the guy the neigh or complain about but since I don't have anything like a HOA, more of a HCBT (hey can I borrow that). Usually it's my tractor they want to borrow, but that's a no go for me. I will however be happy to come over and do whatever you need done. I will break my own toys thank you.

    What's Cooking?

Since I was on home duty today, I opted to go back to basics. Fried chicken, (thighs), mashed taters (instant ) milk gravy, and some Brussels sprouts cause my wife loves them and they aint bad, even mom will eat them.
  5. Well using your standards it didn't happen because I wasn't there to hear it, so there ya go.
  6. I would never have thought anything but smallmouth. But then again I don't catch many what I might consider meanies, or maybe I do and just admire and toss them back?

That was one of my favorite things about NO, you just never knew where you would find some fabulous food, might be a big ole pot of it summering at the gas station or being served out of the back of a truck. And I never tired of an older Louisiana gal calling me honey, darlin, sweety, or babe when I was there. Some great food and great peole too. Dang now I want to make a pot of jambalaya and put a nice fried fish fillet on top of each bowl.
  8. There is a big difference between faith and organized religious organizations. "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." Be it in a boat, in deer camp, or helping an old feller stockpile firewood.
  9. A prick you may or may not be, heck so am i, you just enjoy it publicly more i think. Buy some regular Crown or i will bring my Single Malt Scotch and have a drink with you. Then we can go cut Oneshot some firewood or clean his gutters, or go fishing, doubt you would want me helping work on a boat motor unless you need some to smack things with a ball pein hammer. This thread has gotten too deep for me and I don't swim. I don't want to think about only small trout in heaven, what happens to my stuff (or me for that matter) doesn't cross my mind much. Told my wife she can call my buddies and let them have their pick of my stuff if she wants to, or sell it and finance a vacation, Lord knows she has earned it being married to me. I will continue to enjoy what I have, and do my best to be a good person, and worthy of being called a Christian.
  10. The karmabits are indeed nasty looking things. I just can't make myself buy one, I have no intention of carrying it for protection, and it looks lie a disaster for cutting 550 cord, stripping electrical wire or trimming fishing line. My preferences are more mundane, basic straight blade or slight drop point. I did finally buy a cold steel tanto style (Kobun) mostly because I was making a midway order and if I increased the order a few more $$ then I could get free shipping which made the nice almost free. Well . . . That's what I told my wife anyway. Haven't yet found the intended use for the Kobun, but it rides around in the truck just waiting to be used.
  11. Oneshot, take care of yourself. I suspect if you need some wood cut just mention it. There would be enough of us show up to cut, split and stack wood while the rest cooked up some vittles for everyone.
  12. Lol, I have been on bit of those extremes. Sometimes I remember to wearate gloves and all goes well, I peel off the gloves and think I am clean. Except for the gunk around my watch, sleeves and the fact that I was kneeling in a puddle of blood. Anymore I just roll with it and whatever I am wearing goes right into the washing machine. I once carried a deer out of the woods (small deer and I was a lot younger), when I got home my ER Nurse mother nearly had a hear attack, she thought I had been shot. It was truly amazing how much blood can drain out of a field dressed deer and soak into your clothes.
  13. That cool moon model is the exact same design and the Canadian belt knife, albeit made much better than the $15 cold steel version. The veritable Buck 110 is a tru classic, may not be the best at any one thing but works pretty good at all of them. I have an Uncle Henry Papa Bear version and a smaller uncle henry that rode on my belt at work for many years.
  14. Nice, it's a good fall for crappie.
  15. Let's talk knives. I am a knife slut, I don't even know how many I own, I just like to buy ones that I think will be perfect for ???. But I have used many different ones over the years. I seem to gravitate to a few. An Outdoor Edge swing blade because I like the "zipper" blade and the regular blade is pretty good. I also like my Knives of Alaska Alpha wolf, great steel, love the design and shape, hate the sheath. And this year I used a Moraknive companion Carbon steel, dad gum that thing is sharp, holds and edge, comfortable and even though it's a goofy sheath it is secure and the price point of $20 is hard to beat. I have had in think 3 morakniv companions and tend to give them away as presents to friends. Helping with a special hunt I get to test my knives a lot so I gravitate to models that I seem to always have on me. I also have a cold steel Canadian belt knife that has the chessiest sheath ever so I strung it on some 550 cord and wear ir around my neck/arm. It gets used a LOT because I can grab it cut something and stick nit back in he sheath easily. So what is your go to knife and why, and just because it was your grandpas knife if a perfectly good reason in my mind. My wife carries a Case XX sheath knife that was my dads.
  16. I don't know what an MC guy is, but am sort of afraid to ask.
  17. Old farmer we used to hunt on had a BIG German Shepard. Told us to bring by the ribcage off any deer we kill and just toss it out for Kaiser. Standing there while that beast crunched up bones like dog biscuits was disconcerting. Had a buddy who had access to the big cats at the Wilderness Safari, said watching lions demolish a deer carcass was terrifying and loud.
  18. Exactly, of you push them and jump them all bets are off. But give them 8 to 12 hrs and usually they are deal within 100 yards where they first bed down. Sometimes the dang deer just don't realize they are dead.
  19. Back in my big boom days I remember blowing large chunks of lung out an exit hole with a 7 Mag and the deer ran about 30 yards straight into a tree. Lots of deer take the hit and wobble around for a few seconds them fall over. Some bolt immediately. I like it when my wife says that it jumped and kicked and bolted,,means I am gonna find it pretty quickly. Its when someone asks me to help trail one ad I ask what happened at the shot and they say it humped up and then ran off, gut shot usually or worse they heard the crack of the bullet hit, and the deer fell down and quickly got back up and ran off, but they found good blook but lost it. Seems like it is usually a leg hit, and will bleed heavily for about 75 yards, then diminish to a trickle then just occasional spots before disappearing. They seem to run to the other side of the world and are seldom recovered.

    Dang! Heck yeah
  21. Deer seldom drop for me or my wife. The little rabbit sized one took the bullet a little low but it tore the hear apart, busted both lungs and exited the the off front leg just below the knee. It did exactly as all the others, jump, kick, run, crash. This little bugger slid a few feet and ended up under a couple of limbs which made him hard to spot at first. The only shot that routinely anchors them in their tracks are ones that take out some spine, whether a high hit, neck shot or what I call a high shoulder shot that get spine and front shoulders at same time. Effective but you have to do a bit more trimming of blood shot meat. Dang things can still run on two broken shoulders or with heart and lungs destroyed, but no too far if both lungs get hit well, and usually an easy blood trail of needed.

Sounds tasty! A little crusty sourdough bread and mmmmmmm.
  23. Pretry sure back when I ran beagles and 3 or 4 of us would have a food hunt I have had more ra bit meat in the sink than this kettle feller provided. I know I have been in on fish cleanings that had more meat!
  24. Well my grandson came for the weekend (5 yrs old). After doing fun stuff like helping Papa make some cinnamon rolls, he wanted to go with his Nana to sit in her deer stand. Sure, OK, gave him a lecture about being quiet. Dropped them off and came back to house. He spotted the first deer a little buck that milled around before heading off. Then a doe and what appears to be a rabbit in deers clothing came out. Wife asked him several times if they should shoot it. He was quite sure that they shoot. So kapow, I hear the shot and think, nah no way. Then I get the text, yep. Turned out to be a little Button Buck, dropped wife off at house and grandson and I went out to field dress it. One think I lie about little deer is they are easy to clean. Hanging up washed out, as we have some crock pot roast with lots of carrots and taters. Guess I know what I will be doing for a little while after cinnamon rolls are eaten.
  25. I don't have a problem with him killing a bobcat IF it was a legal kill. Around here bobcats are elusive but not rare. A good bobcat pelt is one of the few pelts right now that have any value. It would be like finding $50 laying on the ground.
