  1. The spraying and clearing happened in a lot of places. One of he results of over cropping and clearing was the massive gravel in in of streams and creeks. I also remember my father talking about there not being any deer around in the 30s. Everything is a tradeoff. Want a nice reservoir to swim and boat in and produce power, gonna lose some creeks and rivers. Water supply is becoming more of an issue as we increase in population.

If you don't give than a job they will make their own, and ya may not like what they choose. Trying to find her a new one, but no luck so far, she is being picky. Am gonna drop a couple beef roasts into the smoker tomorrow morning for some bbq beef for sunday supper with friends.

    What's Cooking?

After a hectic week that involved losing our 12 yr old Border Collie, I finally got to do something photo worthy. 1 inch this pork chops on the grill. Also picked up a few beets that are currently being cooked, peeled and sliced with some butter. Wife even saved the greens and chopped them, sautéing them with some bacon and onions. And yes there are 3 pieces of trimmed off back bat crispier up on the grill as well. Am in hog heaven tonight.
  4. When all is said and done we will be back to normal. 😆
  5. BTW, the training, worst case scenarios etc. Are not new, that game has been played every few years for every dam in the Inventory. There are reasons the COE has never lost a dam to failure.
  6. Ya'all should have gone to their public meeting. Could have asked all the questions you wanted of the engineers.
  7. Wind plays a factor sometimea. Otherwise with a large inflow it isn't uncommon to have a somewhat higher level on the upper end. But haven't had any new inflows lately?
  8. Every year or two I end up in a battle with swifts, or Swallows or what the heck ever the fast flying little birds that build with mud. There is a recessed access into an attic like area right outside my front door. Them little feathered devils sure don't give up easily.
  9. Level not down yet, still VERY slowly creeping up.

Those ribs look tasty Chief, so did the chickens. Gavin I gained 5 pounds just from the pics and swear I could smell that smoker. Things have been hectic here, and havent been able to get smoker, grill or much of anything going. Did drop a nice big salmon fillet onto the grill for lunch, lots of garlic and butter was pretry good.
  11. It will be a while before Pomme sees "normal".
  12. Sadly I think they just weren't smart enough to move that stick thingy back and slow down.
  13. The probe I saw is that the short article.did state whether the otolith sections, carbon dating, and isotope dating all agreed. I have seen studies of river sediments that had traces of many isotopes from early atom tests, so if buffalo or other fish or even floods are distubring the silt with the isotopes then I can see where it would be easy for fish to accumulate some of them in the otoliths. Maybe the concentrations might be lower than direct contact from being alive during those tests. I am not anti buffalo, they are a native fish and fed many a poor county family during tough times or maybe just served as an added food supply after floods. I have seen them trapped in sloughs in hay fields after the water receded by the hundreds. We're I a settler living on what I could grow or find, and a flood had just happened I certainly would be trying to can or salt them to preserve.
  14. Pretty sure they both qualify.
  15. Hmmm, interesting article. They used a completely different method of aging them. Would be interesting to see why the difference was so drastic and if the study holds up to scientific scrutiny. New methods often have unknown glitches but can also provide some amazing results.
  16. Not nearly as many crappie caught this spring and there were quite a few good one in the ones that were caught. So the supply of quality fish should be excellent. In addition the spawn recruitment (survival) should be good as well, so in 3 years another crop of keeper sized crappie should arrive on the scene. The highwater years are usually great for the spawn/survival.
  17. Truman will likely set a new record, Pomme is a decent rain event away from a new record, Stockton might require a bigger event to set a new record.
  18. His camo pattern is wrong for that particular vegetation, looks like pot plants.

    Flooded!

Definitely hurts businesses. I talked with a business owner on Pomme today, business down 50% from last year over Memorial Day.
  20. My wife does that occasionally and us usually eating the last of it when I see her. What? It's been in there for a couple days. Grrrrrrr.

    What's Cooking?

Was busy for a while today helping a feller with a flooded basement move stuff out so I didn't get to do much. Wife made some plain old burgers in the cast iron skillet for supper and opened a can of Bush's baked beans and some cottage cheese. She also made 3 batches of strawberry freezer jam!
  22. Can't too busy watching the shoreline for camoflauged carp fishing huts.
  23. But Mercs don't break so they don't need parts. Especially the 4 strokers.
  24. Anybody that wears KU regalia can hold his own. Vernon would you take some MU merchandise instead of money? I have no faith in you being able to stop it raining. A storm blew up here this morning g and dumped an inch in 30 minutes. Half inch each of the last two days. If it weren't for a couple raised beds I wouldn't even have any mater plants. Oh well at least it is warm and muggy now. Thanks !😅
  25. Chief, I didn't even know your area had maps yet. Haven't seen Jason is a couple years. I have seen a ton of folks on LOZ putting small crappie into cages, couldn't thoroughly enforce it with an army of agents. But I suspect TR does the same. Pomme is pretty safe right now folks need boats or scuba gear to even get to their docks.
