  1. BTW I am an oddball, I cannot catch a dadgum fish on a jerkbait. I could fish it till I fell over from exhaustion and not have a fish. So I fish jigs, all my fish have been caught on jigs, I love the feel of the "whack". I know that a big part of my inability to catch fish on a jerkbait is simply my mental attitude toward them, I don't have any confidence in them so after 10 minutes I cuss them and pick up my jig rod, which I can fish while sitting down, talking, etc. and not think about it, and I have confidence in it. thus I fish it differently and 10 times as long as anything else so I catch more fish on it. doesn't make it good or right its just how it is for me.
  2. The traditional "run" of whites up the river is a very hit/miss proposition. Depends on some rainfall to give a little flow to the river, but not so much that it floods. Daylight and water temp both play a role in the timing as well. I will say this, the whites are active around the lake, and are coming back. Windy banks and points, etc. are good options, and in some of the coves that open to the south, a south wind will sometimes pile warmer water into them and bring shad with it. Where the shad go, so do the whites.
  3. Report it, likely it will fall to the county to enforce since it is a septic field and not a lagoon.

    What's Cooking?

Grass carp are probably the cleanest flesh of the carps. We at one point raised some in a 7 acre lake and a couple rearing ponds as part of a semi commercial catfish operation. Eventually caught one on a rapala of all things, wasn't as good of a fight as a regular carp. Shot several trying to remove some of them later on. Of you ever have them in a pond and try to seine them it is quite a show, they can put salmon to shame with their jumping ability, and can clear the top of a seine with room to spare.
  5. Here are a a couple pics of my last 2 nights, 3 wally and 6 whites with one short Monday night. 3 wally and 3 whitrs plus the big white that was given to me and 2 short wallys. Gonna have to stay home tomorrow night to rest my aching back and grill up some wally.
  6. Could be worse, friend of mine last night had something break on his boat trailer and it ended up sideways in the road, with the axle at about 45 degrees, bent, wheel bent etc. They man handled it around enough to get it off the road and tried to use enough ratchet straps to be able to limp home, but no avail. ended up with it on a roll back bed wrecker and headed to the shop for new axle, wheel and parts. happened on a small access road so at least it wasn't on a highway that would have been bad beyond description.
  7. Lazy Ikes, always like them. Still have one of them somewhere too, probably in my creek bag.
  8. I watched the KU game at a friend's house while wearing my Chemo/KU hat, hoping to jinx them. Though Michigan teased a few time even I couldn't jinx them. And I don't watch sports on TV, friends are rabid KU fans though, but otherwise they are good folks. Hogwally those are very true words. At this point I am not sure any of us know what or why, or perhaps I forgot since I took off and went fishing this evening. Not a stellar evening but 3 keeper walleye and a short, 2 smallies, 1 LM, and 6 whites before I broke off my lucky jig because I was too lazy to re tie it. That was more than enough to carry back up the hill to the truck. All caught on a cheap BPS brand walleye angler jig.
  9. Good healthy looking fish sir.
  10. Drove over the bridge today, the river looked beautiful. Yep there are some smallies up there, but don't tell nobody. They will be too busy catching white, walleye or crappie to worry about smallies. Do wish we would get some rain to liven things up. And welcome Coloradospinner.
  11. Stop it you guys are killing me. If you can't laugh at yourself who can you laugh at, well except Jayhawk fans and golfers.
  12. There are MANY worse ways to spend a day than that.
  13. I am at a complete loss for words.
  14. Smalliebigs, DO NOT let facts get in the way of a good plan.
  15. there is a "BerryLand Storage" at 64 and 64B in Pittsburg if that is the one you are referring to. 417-852-4253, no idea what sizes they have. There are several around but for some reason they aren't listed in local phone books. You can also call Nemo marina at 417-993-5160 or Whites marine at 417-852-4414, if nothing else they will likely know what is around.
  16. Fishing for deals, I like it.
  17. Wait, wait, wait. It needs to be spread out a little more, each of the St. Louis 5/7 whatever they were named, and anyone else that claims to be an expert should be required to have a "non-expert", "non-Meremec" fisherman in the boat with them, sort of like a draw buddy tournament. Be a "non-meremec" and definitely a "non-expert" I will take one for the team and volunteer to be the back of the boat guy for someone. But we still get to keep some spots and have a fish fry afterward right?
  18. The thing I have noticed on truck/vehicle tires is if the shop isn't paying attention they can quickly and easily ruin the pressure sensor that tells your vehicle that you have a low tire, they will apologize and charge you about $80 to replace it.
  19. Me too, I posted once about the Ned rig and he PM'd me with a ton of information and history, offered to take me fishing. I regret that I was never able to take him up on his offer before his accident.
  20. I don't care who caught it, that's a good un.
  21. I finally switched to 10 ply rated tires on my truck because of rock chips and nails etc. No problems since. Of course that won't help your trailer. Yep plugs, plug kits, and a 12 volt compressor. Have helped several folks at out of the way ramps fix tires, oddly though it has never been a trailer tire. Plugs will get you home, patch will fix it.
  22. I hear the LOZ thing about stable water level a lot, and it does play in. But Truman Lake which puts out crappie by the ton is about the opposite of stable. Seems like a heavy dew will raise its level sometimes. There is certainly more to the story, cover for fish and fresh hatched fry, food sources, especially for the fry etc. High water years during the spawn produce excellent fishing 3 to 4 years later.
  23. Well that sucks. At least you are planning on making some changes in order to minimize the impact.
  24. WOW. Nice catch.
  25. Probably caught more than me, I was helping a friend work cattle. Too tired to fish after that. Any day this nice is still a great one, catching fish just makes it better.
