"Under dog squash" I like it. And as I have crossed the half century mark, yes old is food.

Doubt if there is an way to know how many actually spawn naturally. Seems like there are almost two different ones, the ones who run up he creeks and rivers ro spawn and the ones who will spawn in the lake itself. Doubt the reproduction is enough to keep he population up without stocking, which I am glad they do. Walleye are one of my top 5 favorite fish depending in time of the year, and it's getting to be "jack time".

I like spaghetti squash just split in half and microwaved. Scrape it out add butter and s/p. But I like winter type squash in general.

Nice. I have that speed problem too. Especially after catching one.

Johnsfolly, that high shoulder shot will anchor them as a rule. I normally don't take my own advice, I put a bullet through both lungs, let run normally 50 - 75 yards before they pile up. My wife will often clip a shoulder or even the spine and they don't go far. Where I hunt that usually isn't a problem or at least it wasn't when my big strapping son was living at home. Now it seems like a lot more work to drag them back to the fence and lift them over with the tractor bucket. The first time I tried to do a euro mount myself was absolutely the worst, I left it sitting in the barn for "a while" before deciding to boil it clean. the flesh had dried like iron and the smell from the decomposing brains as it boiled will never be forgotten. When it was finally done, the bone wasn't clean enough for me so I decided to "chrome" it with bright chrome spray paint, not the worst thing I have ever seen but it is different. I also made a much nicer plaque and put the bottom inch or so of a .243 Win brass case into the plaque just for her. Its sort of fun to work on but not my cup of tea,. so to speak.

I believe the official line is that there is no documented evidence of any breeding pairs in MO. Not quite the same as saying there isn't any. It will only be a matter of time until a momma and kittens are on a game camera, problem with those pics is they tend to get shared and re-shared and claimed to be from a dozen different places. but there is food source, and cover enough, there will be some making a permanent home here.

If its cold it takes me a little longer to tie it, but yeah I have had it slip many times or break right at the Alberto. I have tried extra wraps and it broke the nano-fil, less wraps and it slips through. I am not giving u on it just yet, because I like the idea of having something a little more resistant to rock abraision but so far the Alberto and I haven't quite meshed up. And yeah I have tied it wrong a couple times and had it simply disappear like a magic trick when I tried to snug it up. Maybe I need to leave a little longer tag end or something I am not sure. I am prepping a od with 8lb Nano for some early walleye fishing in the rocks etc. and am going to try it again, but will cry crocodile tears if I loose a wally.

I did a couple myself (that was when I learned to remove the brains right after you kill it or put it in a freezer until ready to work on), it was way more work than I was interested in to be honest. I didn't have a pressure washer, and didn't enjoy being coated with the smell for a length of time. A local guy is a shirt tail taxidermist and for $120 or so he cleaned, bleached and mounted on a piece of old barn wood. For me it was money well spent. I have 3 now, one for my wife, a weird one for me and one for my son.

Best thing to me about the forum is this!

I think Joe is just jealous, thankfully you guys didn't get into the proper rod length or style discussion. -
I am still searching for a good know for attaching a mono leader to my Nanofil. Have tried several and they all seem to fail me, could be me but I really think I can tie the knots correctly. When tying directly to a jig I use a fishing fool knot and it works very well. But for a leader the Albright knot, the one in the video above, and others I have tried simply fail, when I pull, I give the live a good slobber to lubricate it, but even when it appears to hold the first time it gets hung its gone at the knot and I am back to tying direct again. I have 6 lb and 8 lb nano and generally try to use either a 6 or 8 lb mono. The same knots that work well enough on my Fireline set ups I just cant get to hold. And some days I have enough difficult catching a fish to allow one to leave with my jig or heaven forbid my Rapala. have had the nano 6lb on for 5 or 6 years at least and absolutely love the line.

Nice buck. I did have one that I shot with a rifle down in a creek in northern MO, bolt at the shot and run up the steep ravine that was the creek, right toward me, made it to within about 10 feet of the top before giving it up. Right at the edge of a big hay field. Was mighty thankful for his final efforts as it only required a short pull with the truck to get him over the edge, getting him into the back of the truck well that was a little more effort. Many times I have said I would mount a pulley on the front of the truck bed to assist, but still haven't done it and seldom hunt away from home anymore.

Weird, but that is his choice. I had a discussion with a landowner in Northern MO once about letting us hunt a piece of property. He was adamant that he would have to let everyone hunt if he let us hunt. Tried to politely explain that he could allow or restrict whomever he wished, he could let my buddy hunt and not me. But we certainly didn't push, just thanked him and told him if he needed some strong back weak mind help to just tell the adjacent landowner we were hunting on and we would come help him anyway. Sometimes it just doesn't work out. He did have some nice Chariton River frontage, although we have never fished it.
-
Seems odd that the landowner wouldn't still let you have access after posting it. Posting it merely means against trespassers, and if you have permission you are not trespassing. I have had some similar happenings with a neighbor except he gave me a key to the gates at the time. As a landowner I can fully understand why they don't appreciate the trash, junk, disrespect that some areas get, I hate to see any access lost but I understand why they do it.

That was some pretty good video of how fast they can hit it and quit it.

Beat me, I got skunked on Saturday. Releases have increased to 500 CFS, don't know if that will change things or not.

If someone put a screw through the hull of my boat I would be back on their doorstep with a bad attitude and request for them to fix it or better yet to pay for someone who is actually good at it to fix. Either way they would certainly get to see it and me.

Starting supper for friends house tonight. 18 lb ham. Should be enough for everyone coming, anyone who wanders in and enough leftovers to feed my son and room mates for several days with some left for beans later. For those that noticed it is a fully cooked ham, I am just using the electric smoker as a slow outside oven today, though I will put some chips in it because I like the smell.

The boys will always come to the party first. If memory serves around 50 degees of water and a little more sunlight, but they will certainly be getting the urges. I will have to start making plans to hit them in the evenings after work soon.

Times are a changing, Pomme is again becoming almost rotten with whites. Most are small but they are growing and few fishing trips end without a few whites being caught right now.

At 700 msl you wouldn't be running anywhere, but you could sure see a lot.
-
So if you happen to shoot a squirrel out the window during the meal it's like you never run out of squirrels.

The only way I ever had spoonbill that I liked was a slab of it in the smoker, covered with whatever spices you like, enough to hide the normal flavor of the meat. I have had it cubed and fried several times and don't care if I never eat it again. Now if I ad one I would give it a try again, by meticulously cleaning it to remove the red meat, and maybe brine it first, then fry a little bit, and smoke the rest.
